[Original Score] Cœurs Perdus 1 - Using a mechanical piano ostinato to underscore isolation
Hi everyone, I’d like to share a track from my latest score for the short film Cœurs Perdus (Lost Hearts), directed by Frédéric Lavigne (2024).
The piece opens with a piano ostinato—a stubborn, almost mechanical rhythmic cell—surrounded by sparse string chords. The music follows the exact moment the character finds themselves alone, facing their own reflection. It’s meant to feel like a question asked in a whisper, without an immediate answer. Something has been set in motion, irreversibly.
I wanted to capture that tension between the cold regularity of the piano and the emotional void of the strings. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the atmosphere. Music by Philippe D.
