Why do so many people still fly to Korea for plastic surgery when they could do it in their country?
This is something I've been wondering. Every year, thousands of people travel all the way to South Korea specifically for cosmetic procedures, even though most countries have plastic surgeons.
If you think about it, that's a huge commitment. Flights, hotels, recovery time, language barriers...yet people still do it.
From what I've read, a few reasons keep coming up:
- Surgeons perform a very high volume of facial procedures, so they gain a lot of specialized experience.
- The aesthetic seems to lean toward subtle, natural-looking results rather than obvious "worked on" features.
- There are entire districts dedicated to plastic surgery, making consultations, imaging, surgery, and aftercare relatively streamlined.
- Depending on the procedure, even after airfare, some people say the overall cost is competitive compared with what they'd pay at home.
Obviously surgery isn't risk-free anywhere, and choosing the right surgeon matters far more than choosing a country.
But I'm curious:
For people who actually went to Korea...
- Was it worth traveling?
- Were the results noticeably different from what you were offered at home?
- Did you feel the quality justified the trip?
- If you considered Korea but decided against it, what changed your mind?
I'd love to hear real experiences
