Platypus 5”

Platypus 5”

Finally joined the 2011 club. Considering putting a TLR-1 on there I think.

Unlike pretty much every other 2011 that I have shot before, I think the platypus, and I’ve known this for a while since I tried it the first time, is the only one that remedies most of the main grips that I have with the 2011 platform.

-It’s almost mandatory to put your thumb on top of the manual safety to prevent it being pushed up into the “safe” position.
-The slide stop/release is always just far enough a way that I can’t hit it with my thumb without completely adjusting my grip
-The vast majority of the mag release buttons are small and stiff, and also a little further forward than I would like, which also forces me to break my grip.
-2011 magazines are expensive, and are finicky
-While I do like a girthy handgun grip, most 2011’s somehow always feel a little bit uncomfortable.
-There is always a little crevice where my shooting thumb meat is being pinched a little bit somewhere between the manual safety and the Beavertail.

Yeah, the platypus, feels a lot more like a striker fire gun in a lot of ways because of the Glock mags changing the geometry.

Is it common for matches to already be pre-booked to accommodate a lot of the higher end shooters?

This has happened a couple of times, but just recently for a USPSA match in MD but I was really hoping to get registered for on the Sunday showing. I have Sunday off naturally, so I didn’t need to change my work schedule. I signed up for Saturday, and now I have to hope that my job can accommodate me to swap my Sunday off for Saturday instead.
