Why Do I Move in Opposition to the World?

Why Do I Move in Opposition to the World?

All of my planets are in a just a small segment of constellations from houses 5-8 with alignments at very acute angles. Studying the wound of Chiron, which stands at direct opposition the 12th house of in Taurus, I recalled all of the times in my life where I seemed to not follow the general trends of the world; the arts, ideas, values, even communication style and seem at home exploring the unseen that operates below the surface of reality, the metaphysical. Coupled with a desire to have myself seen and undersold, to have a place in it.

It’s driven a pervasive but tangible disconnection from the external world when seeking to engage with it, which I do earnestly, that seems like being always on the opposite page. So often I discover my words and feelings connect to others in very fragmented and inconsistent ways. They sense the authenticity behind them but don’t resonate in a significant way.

Studying the charts of other notable figures with this pattern on their birth chart, this seems less common and is associated with a certain reclusiveness and disconnection from society in other areas of their lives, depending on where those alignments were clustered.

Open to general perspectives on what challenges this birth chart might present in life, especially with Chiron sitting alone in Taurus for further reflection.

Mods: Reworking this post for better clarity and whole sign chart compliance with sub guidelines.

“How Can I Feel Less Lonely”

Asked a personal question of my guides for a recent Celtic Cross spread this week, prior to exploring this before a therapy appointment; which I sometimes do to get clarity on what topics to bring up during the visit. I’ve been avoiding this for a while but it felt time to get an answer.

Looking for input from the community on any additional perspectives I may have missed from my own interpretation;

“I’ve been lonely coming from a place of resisting growth and change (Judgement Reversed). I am now in a setting where I am balancing material and family caregiving responsibilities for parents and living at home m (2 of Pentacles) while working to find employment in after obtaining some financial security in the medium term. While keeping this in balance, feelings of emotional overwhelm and internal self doubt over how the place I materially find myself in makes me appear to others (7 of Wands reversed).

However, underlying that in the subconscious is personal strength from self growth (Strength), but I have a gut feeling this is highlighting a quality that has been a longer term problem with putting distance, walls with other people and staying true to my own convictions even if it means hiding or avoiding them. There may be a relationship with the 5 of Swords in the potential outcome position where this will lead towards conflict and distrust for the connections I’ve worked to develop so far.

Then I bring in unconscious High Priestess signifier energy into my desire for connection. This has been a double edged sword in my life; the truth bombs she can bring out of intuitive instinct by being myself don’t sit right with many, they have been accurate and alienating in the past and have put me into positions where I suddenly feel in over my head.

The environment is not conducive for healing loneliness and will be filled with miscommunication, misunderstanding and delays (8 of Wands reversed). I see a relationship with the Wheel of Fortune reversed in the short term; this is karmic period, sitting with feelings of isolation and setbacks while being unable to do anything about it will be required for growth. Amidst that is a fear that I will never find love and support (Lovers reversed) ending back in a reoccurring final outcome card (cognitive confusion and disconnection from logical solutions in the Ace of Swords reversed)

Over top of this are there cards drawn for direct advice on this dynamic at the beginning middle and end of the reading that have a past/present/future narrative of past work to grow myself and material resources (7 of Pentacles) have led to a present where I need to show and demonstrate my achievements so far (6 of Wands). This could be related to a research project I am undertaking but has run into unexpected personal conflict and emotional setbacks with members of their family. Having the courage to continue my investigation and collaborate with leads look favorable and could end in new beginnings and confidence (The Fool).

Thanks for taking the time to read this summary, any input on these confusing and contradictory aspects of the self would be valued!

One Toke Over the Line

Saw a 1970 Kama Sutra pressing of Brewer and Shipley “Tarkio” I had put on the shelf for awhile recently after taking a pass at a few new LPs;

https://www.discogs.com/release/1333526-Brewer-Shipley-Tarkio

This was the last record spun at my old place before I had to significantly downsize my life and decided the metaphor in the title track was apropos for where I am right now; one toke over the line on material and immaterial resources hoping the train to take me past it is on time.

I thought this thrift store pick was a NM back then but it sounds to be a strong VG+ with time and a bit more objectivity.

In the Garden of Eden

Spun a 1969 ATCO Records repress of Iron Butterfly picked a few years ago that I had forgotten about and took a walk in the garden;

https://www.discogs.com/release/5942046-Iron-Butterfly-In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

Side 1 is a solid VG+ but the iconic title track on B1 is a wild ride in condition; going from Good in the first minute to NM-/EX by the end. Overall very solid, restrained mastering as I’d expect from an album of this era. I’ll be taking a closer listen to the cuts on side 1 and appreciated the fantastic drum work!

Send for Me, Julie

Spun a 1961 Liberty Records stereo pressing of Julie London “Call Me” recently picked to further explore my relationship with her music after I a moment with her debut LP a few weeks back.

There are some minor surface defects on side 2 but the grooves sound strong and in good shape throughout, a very solid VG+ EX.

Musically this is a sensual mix of classy 60s big band, jazz and soul arrangements with a wonderfully warm and dynamic old school stereo soundstage that comes out in full force for the closer title track.

In a Quadrophenia State of Mind

Threw on a first Polydor press of The Who “Quafrophenia” I recently picked at an antique store, buried in the back of a stack of a compilation section (pictured in the last image):

https://www.discogs.com/release/7846152-Various-Quadrophenia-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack-From-The-Who-Film

When I me mentioned it to my dad he said this was fondly remembered in his collection back in the 1970s which had been sold at a garage sale in the 1990s for pennies on the dollar by an older gentlemen who purchased the lot on the spot (from what I’ve gathered and remember from playing this back then and from him was this contained all of the mainline Led Zeppelin albums, Cream and others).

In a small way, taking a pass at this album is a way to restore what was lost. This one’s for you pops!

Side 1 sounds fantastic and plays a very strong VG+ EX. Visually the second LP is in the same condition as side 1 so hopes are high the rest was less played in its day. Having only known “Love Reign O’Er Me” it will be interesting to finally put that track into full context of the complete score; I may end up seeing the film!

Sing Me A Monday Morning Song, Piano Man

Spun another LP I picked up this weekend at the garage sale to start my week off that I’ve wanted in my collection for a long time.

This is a 1980 Columbia repress that cleaned up variably during play to VG+ to NM- (EX) on initial impression and sounds fantastic. Quite neutral, dynamic, clear almost classy vinyl mastering that is perfect to my ears. Aside from the title cut, there was great anticipation to hear B5 “Captain Jack” on this format:

https://www.discogs.com/release/20872999-Billy-Joel-Piano-Man

I don’t typically cue up another track directly on a physical record; this time the closer was spun a few additional times for a special moment with this album while sipping on a cuppa.

Sunday Morning In The Big Chair

Spun a copy of a 1985 Hauppahge press of Tears for Fears “Songs from the Big Chair” acquired recently to frame a positive mindset for Sunday;

https://www.discogs.com/release/2106689-Tears-For-Fears-Songs-From-The-Big-Chair

I’m a huge fan of this band and have wanted this for a long time to experience the full album for the first time on vinyl ; having a long relationship with “Head Over Heels” and “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”.

This is a wonderful, dynamic NM copy (close to Mint, NM+ per my own take on Goldmine grading) and appears to have been well cared for by its former owner (who is no longer living per the person I bought this from).

I will keep it safe in his stead.

The Golden Era of High Disco Music

Spun my Buddah Records Golddisc 1976 press of Andra True Connection “More, More, More…” to take a new cleaning pass. Picked this up early last year and never really engaged with it as it tracked about VG+ at best.

Bringing this up to my current collection standards, also adding this to my Discogs collection and deadwax identified this as a misprint issue (if any exist for a pressing, ruling that out by default). Sure enough there was an insert from the record label apologizing for placing the wrong track order on the outer sleeve missed initially:

https://www.discogs.com/release/110113-The-Andrea-True-Connection-More-More-More

Listing to a fresh transfer I engaged with this album more than I had the first time and was encouraged by the NM- condition after doing a more deep clean of the deeper grooves, observed during that process (dust and dirt took longer to stop accumulating on the stylus). The standout track ended up being B2 “Call Me” an absolute monster groove, when you resonate with a track more than the single.

Disco rocks.

Tuesday Morning Featuring Patty Duke

Kind of a collecting story with this one. I’m a card carrying member of a very niche fandom (the original run of the TV game show “Match Game” and after binging episodes started paying attention to music mentioned off handedly by the hosts and panelists (Joyce Bulifont’s single “Where Has My Daddy Gone” is as quirky as she is).

I happened to be at my main record store last month and noticed an empty sleeve of panelist Patty Duke’s greatest hits in a stack of others in the staff counter used to process new inventory and they obliged me to take a closer look for future reference to add to the wantlist (picture 4 and 5). I had no clue she had recorded albums; the novelty of discovering unexpected sides of people is a thing for me.

Flash to another record store experience yesterday and where I faced a dilemma about a record that I passed on. I noticed the store had a niche section of inventory “VA Celebrities” as I was ready to settle up with my selections where I found a mono and stereo first press of this debut album I had added to the list. Niche inventory is the main reason I sometimes find myself drawn back to this shop occasionally.

It is a solid NM and the price was more than reasonable compared to the other one I was infatuated about in the moment; listening to this after starting the search for her music was a happy vinyl experience. Next on the radar; “Patty Duke Sings Songs from Valley of the Dolls”.

I’m Seriously Tempted to Blow my Record Store Budget.

At a record store now and my heart stopped when I saw this, too bad it’s out of my budget; seems on the high side of Discogs for this 1966 Pitman press (nothing this mint has ever sold so they can ask a premium).

https://www.discogs.com/release/16840158-Nancy-Sinatra-How-Does-That-Grab-You

Talk me down please.

Update; Thanks for everyone who gave their input. In the end I misplaced it without thinking before making up my mind and it looks like it was gone the two minutes or so after I left it unattended. I was never fully committed, so this is a good thing. Adding these to the want list for next time when I face this temptation may become a new rule for myself.

Monday Morning Children Television Record Cleaning Workshop

I picked up a child played copy of “Bob Seger and Brother Kirk” from a haul from Facebook Marketplace Sunday afternoon. I was attracted to a copy of “Sesame Street Fever” in their listing image which I did get but is visually groove worn and questionable, but this was a pleasant surprise.

I have no clue how these will spin when I get back home given what the owners told me about how often their kids played these, it might be a good project source to clean up in post processing if the surface noise isn’t too high. Side 1 is a bit worse off than side 2.

They were a very nice older couple.
After I showed him a pic I had posted on the sub a few days back of a cleaned Julie London album, he expressed interest in potentially giving me first crack at their good record cabinet if they decide to sell.

Saturday Evening Old School Jazz

Another Redditor in this sub recently reminded me of Julie London and I was reminded I picked a copy of her debut 1955 album “Julie is Her Name” at Goodwill a few months backs. Visually this has a few light scratches (more on side 2). I decided to spin this tonight; deep clean it and catalog it; to my surprise the matrix matched a first press Scranton misprint. I compared the track order on the label and sleeve, sure enough we have a winner.

https://www.discogs.com/release/4693744-Julie-London-Julie-Is-Her-Name

I need to listen to the whole thing, but the grooves are strong in this copy with the original surface noise floor mostly intact, fantastic. Now that I know what I have, the white gloves will come out for this one. Given how old this is, it would be a good candidate for future ultrasonic cleaning.

Friday Night Ambience

Spinning a little ambient music to set the mood this evening. I’ve had this for a few years unplayed, it is time.

A Goody and Tasty Record

Recently found a very promising promo pressing of this album online that I felt called to pay up for. The Discogs release ID it was sold under had a CSG process stamp on the outer sleeve (A&M Records did use this on promos through the early 1970s) and I took a chance with that; but it sounds like this didn’t get cut with that process (the stereo mix and soundstage is balanced);

https://www.discogs.com/release/6183972-The-Wozard-Of-Iz-An-Electronic-Odyssey

Spun it very delicately this morning and could only find subtle signs of a very faint stylus abrasion on side B under high flat white light from one or maybe two plays, otherwise this is Mint-. It was one of those specimens that elevated my stress levels just by taking it out of the sleeve and tracking a needle on it.

I have been over the rainbow.

It finally happened today, had a gut feeling to visit a local thrift store and found this ugly looking copy of Abbey Road for $2:00 USD with no inner that looked to be a victim of flooding (part of another outer sleeve had bled into this one). Side 2 fared better, after a deep, deep clean I can hear what sounds like damage from corrosion on B1, after about 2:00 it is preliminary VG+. It’s sounds similar to a copy of Glenn Campbell Rhinestone Cowboy I once cleaned with more explicit hard water damage.

Just below this one in the stack was a copy of The Rolling Stones Her Satanic Majesty’s Request (with the inner sleeve protecting it) that was also partially exposed to water damage but to a much lesser degree (center labels are clean).

Started by finding a copy of “Happy Monsters” for a buck at one thrift store Saturday (only one other record was in stock). Plays NM-, outstanding for a children’s album (was notably sampled and side B is absurdly great).

Went to another thrift store later that focuses on a specific niche and grabbed the six albums in the center for 25 cents a pop all in NM- condition from what appeared to be a single collection. “Jazz Suite on the Mass Texts” is a surreal Lalo Schifrin trip.

Next day, I visited a local record store and was not feeling anything I found, so I bought some sleeves and inners to support them but noticed a new pop up antique store in a retail space across the street. No price tags and was told they were clearing these out for 2$ each (all visually looked NM) and I seeded a new Alan Parsons Project collection as well as an early Jan Hammer compilation who I’ve started getting into.

In total I spent $14.25 USD.
