Dry Fawn hide, help needed
This is my first time attempting to tan a hide. I applied tanning solution yesterday and began to stretch and some of the hide is turning white and soft as expected but a large portion is hard and cannot be stretched. Feels like raw hide.
I'm not sure how to get these sections to soften up.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
I did not kill the fawn, she got hit by a car and didn't want her to rot
First brisket, have a good Friday
Tasted pretty good. Like a very peppery Chuck roast. Wife and kid were fans
Brisket trimming large fat areas question
I have already trimmed this Sams club brisket. 2 main concerns is this one large area I took out cause it was super hard thick fat, now there is a dent, and this very thick are inside the thickest part. Any advice and tips appreciated
Fawn tanning advice
Newbie tanner here: i got the rare oppertunity to skin a young spotted fawn. She was hit by a car and I didnt want her to just rot.
I was able to skin and go through the fleshing process. I wrapped the hide up and froze it.
My current plan is to defrost in water, do 3 or 4 days of pickling with water, citric acid and salt, then balance, make a rig to stretch with some rope and then use a bottle tanning solution.
From what i can tell, the tying up part is crucial, im worried about such a young animals hide being fragile and ripping.
if anyone has any additional advice on a newbies project. would apricate it, i feel like ive learned alot from this sub already
New Weber searwood, got a Boston butt smokin, life's good
Enjoy your Friday and weekend lads and lasses. I'll be playing with this all weekend. Second butt this week and have some ribs, chicken thigh, and sausage for this weekend.
500 first pellet. RecTeq or Pitboss pro 850
The old consensus on the recteq is that they are great but the non deluxe one seems to be lack luster although I like the design alot. I've also seen a lot of folks getting the 850. I would get a MM36 but they are 700 now.
Open to suggestions of what else is out there.
