Spark Mercedes W17 Kimi Antonelli 1:43 (Bonus Tyrrell content!)

Picked up this 1:43 Spark W17 Antonelli first win commemorative model.

Thoughts...

- First 2026 model (for me), the cars look great this year

- I'm not convinced on Spark. There are some really nice details yet other parts are a bit iffy and the rear wing is slightly off-angle. Pros and cons for resin but they're definitely more fragile.

- The larger base is both cool yet also a waste of space. Sure I could put a helmet in there but that isn't my thing. I wish they would make the bases and backgrounds more dynamic, Hot Wheels had it right back in the day.

- The MOET marker board is really dumb. They give you decals for the O & E. I'd love to know the licence issue behind it but yeah...odd and extremely fiddly to apply.

- The tyres are well done, nicely detailed and have a worn appearance.

I also bought the 1996 Tyrrell 024 model. I love f1 from the late 90s and I thought this was a cool model. It's obviously much simpler than the W17 but Spark executed the model really well. No real complaints.

- The suspension front and rear is really interesting.

- Mild Seven branding yet Spark seem unable to acquire the licence for Vuse when it comes to McLaren. I know people have their own thoughts on tobacco branding but it was a huge part of liveries at the time, I'm a fan of models that come with the correct decals already applied.

Let me know what you think.

Minichamps Vs Spark: McLaren MCL39 British GP

This is possibly one of my favourite F1 liveries. Whilst trying to decide whether I should go Spark or MC for the 1:18 versions, I bought both 1:43 models to do a direct comparison. Straight shootout.

For me, MC takes it. I expected Spark to be ahead on detail but Minichamps have surprised me with this model. The colours look better, the chrome effect is superior and having the correct logos is important. Both have pros and cons, which do you prefer?

Understanding Model Releases

I stopped collecting years ago and ultimately sold off the majority of my collection.

I recently got back into the hobby, initially through 1/64 because they were novel and eventually picked up a few 1/18 scale models.

I'm interested in a few more models but the release schedule makes no sense.

25 cars before 24 versions. Spark appears to have released a 26 Racing Bulls already but seemingly nothing else. Some cars are already out in 1/43 but no sign of the 1/18s. Everything is vague with the retailers on when things will actually appear. I don't really like pre-orders without an approximate release date.

Is there any actual order to this stuff or is it actually as random as it seems?

Noisy CF1?

I've always wanted a CF1, picked one up just before the last heatwave.

Everything was fine for a few weeks but now it makes a 'creaking' noise, pretty much every fan speed. It's really irritating, especially at night. Fan is static, I don't use the oscillation very often.

What's the cause? Is there anything I can do other than a return/exchange (I no longer have the original packaging because why would I need that? 🤦🏻‍♂️).

iPhone Sale - How to Avoid Being Screwed?

I've sold a bunch of high end items on eBay and it has gone smoothly. I sold an iPhone a couple of years ago and got screwed. I eventually managed to recoup most of the money but looking at the posts here every day, this is a huge issue.

Is there a reliable, foolproof way to ship a mobile/laptop and not get scammed? It seems the system is very much in the buyer's favour with almost no consequences. That is obviously UK law and consumer protection is naturally a good thing. But people seem to exploit loopholes over and over with no recourse.

How do you protect yourself? Alternatively, aside from Gumtree and FB, is there a safer platform?

WERK83?

WERK83 are producing some rare and interesting F1 cars in 1/18. I'm particularly interested in the Jordan 191 and the F300 Ferrari models.

Where do WERK83 sit in the hierarchy of brands? Obviously at the lower end based on price, sure.

If BBurago are an entry point, are WERK83 above or below?

(No issue with BBurago by the way, especially at the price).

Samsung Odyssey G8LS27FG810 - XBOX Series X Settings

Hi,

I've been using an LG OLED Television in my lounge for years, always had excellent image/performance. For reasons I have just bought a 27" G8 for my office which is likely going to be my main gaming monitor from now on. I made the purchase based on solid specs and a reasonable price.

I cannot, for the life of me, seem to be able to find an optimum setting. The picture is either too dark, washed out or just doesn't look right. When I've seen reviews or demos of this device the picture looks vivid and punchy, I just can't seem to recreate this, no matter what I try.

Does anybody have a suggested or proven setting list to get the most out of this monitor?
