During a CAX/WTI (I was a SGT at the time) we had to get supplies to fight line or birds wouldn’t fly. It was the weekend and we get a call from the 7ton driver that he is apparently in jail in Mexico. lol. We were at the 15 min mark of having to have the supplies there. Gunny and I both have had licenses for 5tons and a bunch of other things so we decide to go to motor T and just take one…: yes we stole it. I told him I’ll steal it that way if I get I caught you can bail me out. lol.

Well this isn’t too far off of 9/11 and there are still guards everywhere including the motor T compound. I find the 7ton and it takes me like 5 min to figure out how to get it running. There was a gate guard watching me and suspected something and giving me the stink eye. By the time he starts walking to me I got it running and rolled out.

Get back to the supply point, loaded up the K4 trailer and rolled out. Got to the airfield. Swiped my card. Gate opens and as I’m driving through the gate shuts on the trailer bending the gate in half. Fuck me. So I did do the right thing, called PMO and said hey. This happen. (There is no damage to the trailer only the gate.) PMO was good about it. Didn’t care. Everything was fine no real questions and they sent for a gate guard and then shit went down hill.

Then shows up lance corporal schmuckatelly that was at Motor T. This blue falcon immediate sees me grabs PMO and starts having a convo. PMO then asks to see my license and paperwork…. All of which I have none. I tell him hey I need to call my Gunny and report all of this before we can continue.

Gunny gets there, I get placed in handcuffs, lots of discussions happen about mission effectiveness effectiveness and yada yada yada. PMO proceeds to document the theft and no licenses and proceeds to release me to Gunny on the spot. I am told effective immediately that all base driving privileges are suspended for a year min……

So my OIC (Major) calls the PMO captain and they try to work it out. PMO agrees to dismiss the theft charges. lol but not the driving without a license. He says I’ll send it to your base for them to review and prosecute.

1 month later I’m back and go see PMO about what can be done. Some lance corporal pulls up the paperwork and looks at me and goes do you have a license? I say yes, ( I have many gov vehicle licenses just not one for a 7ton but that wasn’t the question asked.) I pull out 4 stacks of the old white licenses and hand it to him. He glances through them and goes this looks good. You’re all set to go. lol

Morale. Only answer the question asked. lol. My fit rep that year got extra points for stealing a 7ton. lol

I was in during the 2000’s. I did a tour of 4 then reupped for 3 wanting to make an mos change. After the second enlistment I was tired of hearing the needs of the marine corp so I got out. 11 months later I got a recall to active duty letter with a report date of Feb 1. My IRR date is Jan 27. I got the letter in Dec. Knowing the marine corp I contacted the command on Jan 29 and spoke to the S1 oic and informed him that I would not be coming in as my IRR had expired. He was not happy. lol. Huge victory.
