Cavs Nets

Cavs send Merrill

Nets send Clowney and Wolf

Cavs clearly have and have had backup big issues in the recent past. Not sure if Clowney or Wolf could be of any help in the playoffs. But this could help them get through the season with some front court depth. They also need to fill a roster spot and this does that for them. Would they give up shooting for front court help?

Nets have front court depth with Randle, Sharpe, Wagner, Minott, and Jefferson. Merrill's a good 7th or 8th man type of player. Always helps to add shooting and getting a guy for three years who gives solid effort on D. If they're not planning on extending Clowney then why not get something for him? And how high are they on Wolf, because only if they're don't think he'll end up being a rotation player would this make sense, so would they maybe send only one of the two?

How are we filling out the roster

We're hard capped and I believe right up against the apron now, so how do we even afford a vet min for that 14th roster spot. And if we can afford to barely squeeze in a minimum contract, who will it be, or who are we trading to make room

Potential Mitchell Trade Destinations in the Unlikely Event He was Dealt

I made a list of all possible Mitchell trades at the bottom, but I'll break down why team by team.

East:

  1. Pistons--there is almost no way to make it work financially even though they'd love to pair him with Cade. It would have to be something like Thompson/LeVert/Holland/Robinson...they'd be giving up like half their team.
  2. Celtics--it would have to be for Brown pretty much for sure.
  3. Knicks--not interested. They'd rather run back a title team.
  4. Raptors--they probably wouldn't part with Barnes or CMB. We probably don't want many of their other players who would have to be included to match salary.
  5. Hawks--hard to get there with salary as they're not sending JJ and don't have a lot of other good players. Would have to be something like NAW/Okongwu/Daniels. It doesn't make a lot of sense for them to gamble on Mitchell possibly bolting after the season.
  6. Sixers--they have Maxey and VJ. They're just not going to be interested.
  7. Magic--would probably have to be centered around Wagner for us to like it. Bane/Black could work, but it's a big question as to whether he'd re-sign there so not sure they'd risk it.
  8. Hornets--different timeline. They're turning this over to Kon and Miller. They need ball handling not DM.
  9. Heat--would have to be something like Wiggins/Jovic for salary. Doesn't help us enough.
  10. Bucks--different timeline. 1 year rental.
  11. Bulls--the salaries don't make sense unless you want Giddey and PWil.
  12. Nets--would have to include Porter or Randle for salary, and that wouldn't help us much.
  13. Pacers--would probably have to be something like for Nembhard/Nesmith/Toppin to get there with salary, but I think they like their team and just want to see everyone come back healthy.
  14. Wizards--different timeline after just getting the number one pick.

West:

  1. Thunder--would have to be for Chet or JDub probably. If it was Chet we'd obviously probably reroute Allen. If they want a 700 million dollar backcourt it might work.
  2. Spurs--the only salaries that really get you there with a young player and also leaving them some front court depth is Castle/Vassell/Johnson...not sure they'd part with Castle. Though having 2 of the 3 of Fox, Mitchell, and Harper on the floor with Wemby is intriguing.
  3. Nuggets--the only way it really makes any sense financially is a swap for Murray. They're pretty stuck financially as it is, and we wouldn't be looking to take on any of their bad contracts. I guess Johnson/Gordon could work financially but that kills their frontcourt depth so it doesn't make sense for them.
  4. Lakers--doesn't make sense as they already have a hundred million dollar backcourt.
  5. Rockets--there was a rumor that they would offer something like Sheppard/Smith Jr./DFS/picks. That sounds about right. I don't think we'd be interested in pairing Durant with Harden at this point. Sengun doesn't fit with us. They say Thompson is pretty much untouchable.
  6. Timberwolves--they have Ball and Ant...doesn't make sense.
  7. Suns--the owner's don't have a good relationship, and nothing really makes sense numbers wise. They already have Booker and swapping him for Mitchell doesn't make a lot of sense.
  8. Blazers--looks like they might get Brown after most recent moves. They now have Ja and Dame. Adding Mitchell would really make no sense. They're not parting with guys like Deni and Camara.
  9. Clippers--Mitchell for DG? Not happening. And they're not about to pair Mitchell with DG.
  10. Warriors--would have to be for Butler because they don't have enough big salaries to aggregate. Doesn't help us really.
  11. Pelicans--Pels fans I've chatted with say they would never trade Murphy for what would probably be a 1 yr rental like Mitchell, and the deal would definitely have to be centered around Murphy.
  12. Mavs--different timeline. They wouldn't be interested...I mean maybe for Kyrie, but I just wouldn't think so.
  13. Grizzlies--very different timeline. They finally got off Ja. Can't see it.
  14. Kings--pretty much no way he'd re-sign meaning they wouldn't gamble.
  15. Jazz--they're definitely not going to trade back for him.

Pretty much the only teams interested are those ready to contend right now and have the right kind of salaries to match Mitchell's 50 million. I'm not saying any of these teams would actually do these deals(to say almost nothing of potential picks involved), but I don't see many teams that would be willing to risk Mitchell walking after a year. Most of these teams are in their win-now window, so there's at least a chance he would want to re-sign with a contender. The player has no control over where they go on draft day, but by this stage of their career, and because Mitchell basically set it up this way with his current contract, he has all the leverage.

Thunder for Chet or JDub

Spurs for Castle/Johnson/Vassell

Nuggets for Murray

Rockets for Sheppard/Smith Jr/DFS/pick

Celtics for Brown

Magic for Wagner

I struggle to come up with any other trade scenarios concerning trading Mitchell this offseason that would involve anything other than those six teams and pretty much those players give or take a few future picks either way

Required Grip Socks

Are there any barefoot studios out there? Or any that makes exceptions for individual members/participants that allow them to take classes in barefeet?

Saw someone not wearing socks today, so just curious

Cavs Wolves Nuggets

Two trades:

Cavs get under the 2nd apron S&T Harden to Wolves for Randle.

Cavs send Mobley, Strus, and Schroeder to Nuggets for Murray and Watson(S&T)

New Nuggets: Jokic, Mobley, Johnson/Gordon, Braun, Strus

New Wolves: Gobert, Reid, McDaniels, Ant, Harden

New Cavs: Allen, Randle, Watson, Mitchell, Murray

I couldn't decide where picks would go or if the Cavs would need to include a young player like Tyson or Proctor to make one of those trades work.

Cavs Grizzlies

Jarrett Allen for Santi Aldama and Ty Jerome

Reasoning:

Couple of first reactions--it makes the Cavs worse. Allen at times looked like his former all-star self this past season. He's a great defender and gives the Cavs a presence underneath. Two offense-first players aren't enough to compensate for the loss of defense. My response would be this is just a framework--maybe Memphis throws in draft compensation or another player. Also the Cavs then would have to look for a way to acquire some defense by making another big trade(I'm looking into ways that might help reshape the roster).

Another reaction might be Memphis says no because they have Edey. Well isn't Allen/Edey the perfect 28min/20min center combination for the next three years? It helps protect Edey's health, and Memphis could run a consistent 4 out offense and always have a rim protector on the floor. This would help accelerate the growth of players like Pippen, Coward, Jackson, and Wells.

Anyway just a thought. The money seems to work. Allen 28 mil next year. Aldama 17 and Jerome 9.

Cavs and Rockets

Dennis Schroeder for DFS. That's it. That's the trade.

Cavs have backup point guards in CPJ and Proctor. DFS had a really bad year but Cavs hope he can turn it around.

Cavs and Mavs

Dan Gilbert said Cavs will likely make a big move this offseason. But all signs point to the organization seemingly wanting to keep Mobley, Mitchell, and Harden. So maybe they trade there other two starters Allen and Strus.

Deal is:

Mavs get Allen, Strus, and Schroeder

Cavs get Gafford, Washington, and Klay

That's 54 million in salary next year to the Cavs and 59 million to the Mavs. If the Mavs threw in AJ Johnson it's almost an exact match.

New Cavs: Mitchell, Harden, Mobley, Washington, Gafford, Klay, Tyson, Merrill

New Mavs: Flagg, Irving, Allen, Marshall, Strus, 9th pick, Schroeder, Christie(And whoeveer they get back for Lively because I think he would be immediately dealt elsewhere if they got Allen)

Which team says no or which team wants to do it and throws in picks to sweeten the deal?

If Cavs lose bad to Detroit:

Cavs send Mitchell(50mil)
