What do you do when your job won’t let you go to a burial?

For context I am 3 months into my 6 month probation period. Funerals in Mexico are quick, my cousin passed away a week ago. He is my first cousin, close to him. I received notice that the burial is Tomorrow Friday and I put in a request for UNPAID time off. Was denied. They said no employee during probation has any right to any time off. It is not like we work around deadlines, one day off could very well not affect my work. I tried explaining and was met with “I’m sure what you are saying is true, but I just can’t approve you the day.” I am sad though, shit hit like a truck. Can’t see my cousin one last time?

On the other hand, I have a job lined up. I just did the drug test today, just waiting for everything to clear and start. Better benefits , better pay. I just want to quit rn. Maybe not even quit, just not show up again. Talking out of emotions of course. I know my other job offer could be rescinded for whatever reason so I’m cautious. What do you do in this situation?

boss won’t let me take unpaid day off for my cousin’s burial.

Cousin passed away last week, Mexico does funerals and burials quite fast so the burial was a short turn around. I live in a border town so it is not uncommon to have events on the other side. Boss denied my request for UNPAID time off for tomorrow friday for the burial and next week friday my birthday. I understand my birthday but my cousin’s burial? i tried providing all of the documentation and got a no.

I have another job lined up, going through the background process currently and should have a start date soon. I impulsively want to just walk out right now but I know things COULD happen and could get my offer rescinded. Anyways, don’t know what to do. Am I really going to miss my cousin’s burial for a day at the office? What have we come to.

I had gotten this car as my weekend car as I have a 2018 honda civic. As economical, practical and more safe the honda is I prefer driving this 30 year old car. I reluctantly didn’t buy one cause i could never find the one for me but $7,000 later this is the best car i’ve ever driven. I’ve owned a 350z, BMW e30, jeep wrangler and nothing has been as nice and smooth as this 3rd gen. Hope i get to keep it for many years to come. I have an Evo 9 in the works so maybe that’ll be the best car.
