Image 1 — Had great success with seed of locally sourced native grasses (Elymus glaucus) so I sowed even more (from other sources to have diversity). So amazing that seed of most grasses doesnt need stratification! Seattle WA

The seedlings in the first two pics are less than a month old and germinated within two weeks, maybe even within the first week. I haven't kept good track of the dates.

Volunteer Spiraea douglasii. Kinda poetic, as this light rail station (Star Lake, Kent, WA) has a lot of planted Spiraea betulifolia sensu stricto (which is asian.)

Pnw native outcrop & cliff dwelling plants started as cuttings without roots in early spring. Retaining wall (rockery) in Seattle.

Penstemon fruticosus (primarily found in the eastern cascades though it's also around mount rainier), Penstemon rupicola and Eriophyllum lanatum are both found in both sides of the cascades. E.lanatum historically grew wild in Seattle too.

Guerrilla planted Opuntias in a Seattle alley.

Also with Sedum oregonense, Danthonia californica and Penstemon fruticosus (all PNW natives).

Seed grown Pediocactus nigrispinus planted in the ground fall 2026 (Seattle). Has grown lots this spring. I'm actually blown away.

No rain protection provided.

One of the many, really healthy colonies of Olsynium douglasii found near Cle Elum, Washington State. May 22 2026

Going to seed already. They probably bloomed early this year, due to the lack of late spring snowmelt they're usually subjected to.
