Self-Promotion Saturday!
Today is our first-ever SELF PROMOTION SATURDAY!
Two rules: it MUST BE 4X or 4X-adjacent (grand strategy or HoMM-like) and you MUST tell us why your game stands out.
I’ll keep this up for 48 hours until I lock it.

Let's spruce this place up a bit.
I'd really like some new art for both the Reddit Icon and the Header. Please feel free to share your ideas/entries here. The most upvoted ideas from the community will become our new Logo and Header.
You'll be "immortalized" in the subreddit's about section, too, with a credit. Maybe I can figure out some other surprise, too, for our winners.
Excited to see what the community comes up with!
I figured we can also combat the incessant ads here with some actual posts that generate discussion.
I’m legitimately creating a 4X game design document, but I promise to not steal ideas here. I have my own ideas on how to turn the 4X genre around, but you’ll see those one day in the future.
Let’s hodgepodge a space 4X game that brings together the best aspects of the best 4X games.
Who would we steal exploration from? Expansion? Exploitation? Extermination?
I’ll start. I think Interstellar Space: Genesis did some great things with exploration. Not only can you deeply scan sectors to reveal new resources and systems, but the system itself is elegant and not cumbersome.
I would expand on that and allow the player to find additional primitive species, or species on the verge of uplift, to create more to find and even add procedural events that come along with those discoveries.
I deeply believe that exploration should continue through an entire 4X game, as it’s one of the strongest reasons to keep playing for me.
What about you guys? What gameplay mechanics would you steal and improve to make the ultimate space 4X game?
Listen, I need help. There are far too many posts here that are basically advertisements and I’m done. I need two moderators to help me bring r/4Xgaming back from this bullshit.
Reply here if you’re interested and tell me why you think you’d be a good moderator. Give the group an idea on how we can improve this subreddit, too.
Thank you all!
I trained for a little over eight years when I got my brown belt. When I got promoted, I was in the middle of one of those “matrix moments,” where everything started to make sense, I was gracefully transitioning from single leg X, to X, to half guard, to back mount, and routinely tapping black belts. Not all, but some.
I was in a really great groove and was falling in love with BJJ all over again.
Then came the divorce.
Then came my cervical spine issues rearing back up (I already had a four level fusion).
Now, I’m faced with lumbar issues and my cervical spine is pretty much fucked.
I got so close. I attended 3-5 classes a week for YEARS. I got my brown belt. I was feeling GOOD.
I guess I’m just writing this out of grief. Grief for a lot of losses these past few years, but here, I’m grieving the very strong likelihood that my body will not let me get the black belt that I dedicated so many hours to, sacrificed so much for, and bled, broke bones, injured myself, and sweat a whole lot for…
So that’s it. That’s the post. I’m sad.
