It may not be as good as Atonement, but I actually think it got overshadowed by Atonement’s fame.

Looking for suggestions where Death is a character, either as a narrator (like in The Book Thief) or is the main character of the story, or as a side character. But Death is there somewhere! Will take any genre, comedy, drama, fantasy, horror, whatever! Surprise me!

I’m surprised it’s not talked about more. Despite the title, this definitely isn’t a children’s film.
It’s a beautiful mix of mystery, romance, fantasy, and grief with such a unique atmosphere.
What really stands out to me is the cinematography. It’s amazing. The soft lighting, the misty forests, the mountains,,the interiors, every shot feels so carefully composed
It’s the kind of film where you could pause almost anywhere and end up with a beautiful painting
If Toby Stephens isn’t reason enough to watch it, Ben Kingsley might be!!

I used to suffer from migraines that drove me absolutely crazy. I didn't get that many each month, but enough to make my life miserable. I had terrible experiences with neurologists. The worst migraine of my life happened while I was taking topiramate and sumatriptan that had been prescribed to me. I honestly thought I was going to die from the pain. I was constantly reading this subreddit during attacsk.
In April last year, I had a migraine that lasted more than 24 hours. I even came here asking for advice on how to stop it because I had no idea what else to do. After that day, I'd had enough and made an appointment with an acupuncturist
Nothing could have been worse than the awful experiences I'd already had with neurologists, other specialists and massage therapists and acupuncture was affordable. My only concern was whether the needles would be clean. I started weekly sessions in May. The plan was for 10 sessions, finishing in July
She told me to come back only if the pain returned after the 10th sessions. I completed all sessions and never went back.
Now, the only headaches I get are normal ones after spending too much time reading or working on the computer

I felt like I had nothing to lose, and acupuncture helped me more than any specialist ever did. I'm not saying all doctors are bad, but my personal experiences with them were awful. I hated feeling unheard and like I was inconveniencing them by trying to stay in the appointment for more than 10 minutes. Ten minutes or they'd be late for their next client... I mean, patient. Dude I was trying to tell them their prescriptions almost killed me
The acupuncturist told me “The first session will be the longest because I need to get to know you”. We spent an hour and a half talking about different parts of my body and how they functioned and then started the session. I felt heard and understood. No neurologist had ever made me feel that way.
I know acupuncture doesn't work for everyone and I know many people haven't had good experiences with it. But it worked for me, and I just wanted to share my story. You all helped me a lot with your advice, and I'm really grateful and I wanted to share my experience
I finally watched this version of Beauty and the Beast and I wasn't expecting it to be this haunting and beautiful
This is nothing like the Disney version. It feels like a dark gothic fairy tale, filled with dreamlike imagery, melancholy, and an eerie atmosphere. The castle isn't a magical palace, it's old, dirty, and crumbling. Every room looks forgotten, which makes the whole film even more enchanting
I'm also deliberately not including any photos of the Beast because I think his design is one of the film's biggest surprises
I can see this version isn't talked about very often but I genuinelyy think it's a hidden gem for anyone who loves gothic fantasy, folklore and slow atmospheric films
It’s one of my favorite period pieces alongside Dangerous Liaisons. I’m honestly surprised more people don’t talk about this movie
The atmosphere, the costumes, the music, the obsession, the way Beethoven is portrayed, everything feels so intense and haunting.
Gary Oldman was amazing in it and smoking hot too

I’m looking for movies where the entire tragedy starts because a child lies, misunderstands something and says the wrong thing and then everything spirals into disaster

Not necessarily horror like Orphan, more psychological drama/tragedy
I know it’s not the same story but hits some similar notes
It’s more grounded in realism and not gothic but there’s still that slow burn tension, restrained emotions and the governess- master relationship dynamic. I find Adele insufferable in every adaptation but the kid here really takes the cake
The cinematography is beautiful too, a bit grayish though, which suits the mood
And honestly… goddammit, Stephen Dillane would have made a perfect Rochester
I’m looking for films that capture that specific vibe: quiet, aching longing, duty vs. desire, emotional restraint
Please nothing by Disney or animation.
