Transmission Broke

I have a 2016 ford escape that is paid off and has 124,000 miles on. The transmission broke and the shop quoted me $5.3k for a rebuild.

Is it worth it to have it fixed? Or should I sell it as is on Facebook and buy a new car?

For context, in the last 3 years I have only put about 16,000 miles on the car. My work and everything I do is within 5 miles of the my house.

$5.3k just seems like a lot to put into a car on the premise of just hoping it will last. I keep thinking about the hypotheticals - what is it gets totaled in the next year, engine breaks and costs me more, etc.

Any advice is so appreciated I have no clue what direction to head in.

Fix transmission or buy a new car?

The transmission on my 2016 - paid off - ford escape with 120,000 miles died. I took it to a shop and they quoted me $5.3k to have the transmission rebuilt.

I am soooo stuck between paying to have it fixed or buying a new car. My thoughts are running crazy so I’m keeping this short not to ramble on but I’m weary to fix it because of the cost and all the hypotheticals that come with it. What if something else happens in the next year and I have to pay more money in the car? What if it gets totaled the next day and I put almost all my savings into fixing it?

Don’t even get me started on buying a new car. I have NO idea where to start. I was looking at Nissans but can’t gauge if they are reliable or not. Some people love them while others hate them. My roommate has a Nissan and he loves it and has no issues with it.

I do want to add for context that in the last 3 years I have only put 15,000 miles on my ford escape. Almost all of those miles I put on in college while I was driving back and forth to school, see my friends etc. My job is 5 miles from my house and most places I drive to are also within 5 miles so I don’t plan on putting a ton of miles on a new car anyways.

Any advice and input is really appreciated. I am a girl in my 20s and my family lives in another state so this just feels like a lot. I just paid off my car in January this is the last thing I was expecting to happen.
