Hear me out look at most of Damon's complaints about Damon the look at how he was in the second half of season 1

He was a perfect anti hero someone who did villainous things and wasn't held by a standard moral code like his brother he would still murder without a moment's thinking but he still had some morals he stopped murdering humans and drunk blood from a blood bank

he showed his love for stefan even when He acted like he hated him a Great example was when Fredrick and the tombpires kidnapped and tortured stefan damon went in and killed every last one of them to save his brother

He was on the good guy's Side because of his love and affection for Elena and Stefan even though he was still a antagonist by the end of season 1 he'd even made a respectful relationship with bonnie

It was also when we saw his sympathetic past and stefan's bad side not to mention him becoming A better person over time which really made damon likeable past Ian's godlike performance

He still had his charisma,edge,wit,evilness,and intelligence but still could be kind,protective,and affectionate particularly with his brother and elena

And guess what the best part was?

He was still a fucking villain,was treated like a fucking villain, and got consequences for his actions

If not a show they can at least write it in a tie in novel like stefan's diaries

Like 1864 as a setting has so much potential and can tell us more about the salvatores,anna,Katherine, etc and give more backstory

And in later seasons/books we can follow what Stefan and Damon did I mean there's a whole century and like 40 years from them turning to going to MF in season 1

If you don't remember this dude he was one of anna's henchmen and was the dude who acted as bonnie's love interest in season 1
