My July submission

I tried a few new things on this.

Firstly doing an ink sketch for nature/landscape.

I'm not to used to hatching, so this was a learning experience.

Also, you can see this in the process images, I did the reflection at the end to try and mirror the background, which isn't as nice as I'd like, I'm really happy with my improvement.

Basic sketch

I'm hot, tired and not "feeling it" but if I don't start, I won't do it.

So here is the rough sketch. Never tried ink & wash landscape before. Think this will be my test.

Havana football kids

Sketch and ink done.

Took about 2 hours. I don't stress about trying to be perfect. I do a base that the perspective is decent and go with it.

When I ink, I grab the pen at the farthest end and hold it loosely to get wobbly lines and mistakes. I like all those imperfections.

Gonna take a break for today.

Been lazy

It's been so hot lately that I haven't done any art.

This morning is cool and rainy so... Here is my next project. Found a few cool street scenes with colourful houses. Trying to get my perspective correct. That car is giving me trouble.

Anyways, that's what I'm up to.

Square St-Louis

There are a few places in Montreal where the houses are funky. This is Square St-Louis.

The reference image I used was a very wide angle where it gave a bit of a fisheye effect, I opted to keep that look. I've always loved wide angle shots.

Added progression also for those interested.

Basic sketch

The basic sketch of my next project done.

This is just getting proportions, filling out the frame sketch.

Next step is details. Then ink. Then paint.

We do a monthly themed challenge. This month is animals in nature.

This is my submission with reference photo.

My June monthly theme challenge

I did the opposite than usual.

I did it in WC pencils and then added detail (and black) with paint.

New style

I used to be a photographer.

I say "used to" because last year, after a trip to Japan where I hardly took any pictures, I sold my camera.

Lately I've been kind of craving photography.

Then I found this guy:

I feel his style of sketching & watercolour to document his life really speaks to me.

So to help me develop my sketching I decided to do some of my pictures to practice and get faster at it.

This took about 2 hours...

I really need to practice 😂

My wife likes dark scenes

My wife always requests dark scenes.

This time she asked for a yellow and black spider, at night, with a pier, a boat and a cat.

This was a real challenge for me.

Scenes from life

Sorry for the radio silence.

Been enjoying Diablo 4 new expansion and been ignoring everything else.

I was watching a YouTuber this week, traveling the world and doing watercolour of scenes in a book.

Got me thinking about doing the same.

I did a few of those when I started like this one.

My wife and sister in law.

But yeah, really thinking of just snapping some random pictures and painting.

If nothing else, it'll up my sketching skill.

Progression

I had planned on doing this earlier but.. you know 😆.

So basically last July, 2 weeks into watercolour I painted this. Based off a picture I took.

Then in September I redid it to see if/how I had improved. I was surprised and thought it would be fun to do this comparison every so often. But I forgot 😳.

So, 10 months or so after the first one, I finally remembered, this one in pencil only.
