P0017 + P0008 DTC Codes - Cause

So after spending a few days poking around trying to figure out why these codes were set I was able to figure out the cause. I’m posting this so that if anyone in the future has these codes it can either solve their issue or point them in the right direction.

So let’s start from the beginning my dad had tried fixing this issue by installing new camshaft sensors. That did not fix the issue. So then I decided to give it a shot, I looked at the VVT solenoids and the crankshaft sensor. I did find a piece of metal in the crankshaft sensor. So I cleaned it and ran it again. The codes came back so clearly the VVT solenoids and the crankshaft sensor were ok.

I decided to pull the bank 1 valve cover off to physically check the tension of the chain to see if there was any visible slack. To my surprise there was no slack no matter how much I wiggled it or pressed on it. So I was stumped, usually these codes are an indication of stretched timing chains. So what I did next was turn the engine by hand to see if there was any damage to the timing components. That’s when all the sudden the chain became extremely loose to the point where you could remove it if you actually put some effort into it.

So for those that are having a similar issue and have already checked the chains and they seemed okay. Give the engine a couple turns to see if the engine just stopped at a point where the chain was tensioned. Hope this helps someone out and doesn’t have to spend days figuring it out like I did.

Possible Timing Chain Issue?

So we have these codes, my dad replaced the camshaft position sensors. But he never checked the crankshaft position sensor. So I checked that today and this is what I found. I’m unsure where it came from, I know it’s not RTV or sealant because it’s magnetic so it is metal. It a big chunk too so I’m not sure if I should inspect further or if I should just clean it off and reinstall it. If anyone has any ideas of where it could have come from or if I should just clean it or replace it please share. I don’t know where to go from here. Thank you.

2013 Infiniti G37 backup camera on my 2008 Infiniti G35 Update

08/09/2026

So when I removed the lining on the trunk of my car I noticed this connector that didn’t connect to anything. So I assumed it was for a backup camera. I had a OEM camera but for a 2013 Infiniti G37, out of curiosity I checked to see if it fit and to my surprise it did. I tried looking for where a module for a backup camera could go. I think I found it but there was no wire that connected to that spot. I found what appeared to be loose connectors again and thought those were the connectors for the module but thanks to u/grimm199 i found out that they are apparently junction blocks. They also provided some info on what the wires were for and I referenced them to see if the wires were actually being used. I found out that some wires in fact were NOT being used. My wiring harness only connects to the camera on signal and the shield wire. The image signal wire is not present on my wiring harness. This means that even if the camera is getting power I wouldn’t be able to get an image signal. This means I now will have to remove the old wiring harness and install a new one. Even then I wouldn’t know if the new harness will be compatible with the vehicle. I’m tempted to continue this project because I like a challenge but it is a lot of unknowns and it might not work at the end of the day. I’ll keep you all updated on if I continue to work on this.

Special thanks to u/grimm199 for providing me with information.

Possible Timing Chain Issue

Hello,

So I own this 2011 Chevy Traverse but the thing is that I suspect it has a timing chain issue. I told my dad since the day the problem started that i suspected it was a timing chain issue. He ignored me and changed the sensors, the problem still persist. I was going to remove the valve covers to physically check if there is any slack in the chains but I wanted to post it here to see what the consensus is. What do you guys think it is.

This is all the evidence I have:
- Codes
- Weak crank
- Rattle at start up

2013 Infiniti G37 backup camera on my 2008 Infiniti G35 Updatei

08/07/2026

So this is a little update on my recent post. After doing a little digging in my trunk I found two connectors that don’t seem to connect to anything. I assumed they were for the backup camera but after taking a closer look I don’t think so. Now I assume I need to buy the wiring harness for the backup camera. I know some model of the G35 came with a camera because I went through the service manual and there was a removal section there for the module. I believe the last picture is where the module went. I’m still waiting on the guy that said he would sell me the wiring harness and the module. I’ll keep you guys updated.

2013 G37 backup camera on my 2008 G35

So I bought this trim piece from a 2013 Infiniti G37 to resale to make a quick buck. But out of curiosity I took a look at my 2008 Infiniti G35 and to my surprise it has the connector for the backup camera. So I went to see if it fits and it does. Now my issue is that when I go to reverse the camera doesn’t come on. So my guess is that I don’t have the module for the backup camera or the wiring harness for it. I DMed the guy I bought it from to see if he has the module and the wiring harness. Does anyone know what the module looks like? Also is the module and wiring harness the only thing I need to make the camera work?

Mobile Oil Change Questions

Hello, this is my first time posting here and I have no clue about how the trade works. I took an intro to Automotive Tech class this summer and learned the basics which I already knew due to my great uncle owning a auto collision repair shop and my dad also working in said shop. Anyway I'm a student that needs to make some extra cash on the side and was thinking of doing mobile oil changes. However, I have no idea how to start and if i need a special license. Yes I do already have a bunch of tools like a breaker bar, ratchets, socket sets, impact sockets, oil filter sockets, wrenches, and other assortment of tools. I'm not looking to make life changing money, just enough to cover the cost of my books (yes they are expensive like $300 for a book expensive) and maybe some classes sense I don't receive financial aid. Yes i do already have a job but it's not enough to cover the costs. If anyone in this specific trade can help me answer these questions I'd appreciate it. Thank You.

Update:
I see that everyone has come to an agreement that mobile oil changes are a bad idea legally and financially. I respect everyone's opinion and have deiced that maybe oil changes are not for me, at least right now. I've seen some comment that brake jobs are a better idea but I'm still not convinced that it's a better option. I was wondering what you all think on brake jobs. Are they a better idea or is it just as bad?
