Got a couple gems on an Estate 50% off day.
Got a clean AR-XB which I’m using a temp mat on as the original foam one was cooked. The dust cover is in good shape too. Think it’s a keeper for now. Also picked up a pair of nice Small Advents.

The plans for what Dallas College wants to do with El Centro have been announced.
"Dallas College has chosen Matthews Development, a firm that has led several large projects in Dallas, to oversee its planned $500 million campus and mixed-use development downtown.
The 800,000-square-foot project will significantly expand the school’s three-acre campus into a “knowledge district” along the Austin Street corridor. The development will house an all-new El Centro campus, administrative offices and training centers to foster collaboration between academia and industry.
The project is designed to serve as a “connected urban corridor” that anchors five surrounding areas downtown: the West End, Arts District, Central Business District, Union Station and the emerging Convention Center and Entertainment District, according to a release. The campus will connect the West End DART Station to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center."
Picked it up at an estate sale as it wasn’t working correctly for $15 as it was 50% off day. It wouldn’t engage auto or manual correctly and lock the switches in place. The underbelly of these is actually pretty heavily mechanical. The main reason these stop working is the grease dries up and turns sticky or just outright hard. Took a bit to clean the old grease, get the parts moving again, and apply fresh grease. Regardless got it working like a champ.
Ended up in Galveston for the weekend. Had to take some photos on the harbor tour. Texas obviously needs no introduction but deserves buffs. The USS Cavalla is a surviving Gato Class sub and was the sub that sunk the Japanese Carrier Shokaku during the battle of the Philippine Sea during its first patrol. It also notably spotted and tracked the Japanese task force contributing to the US victory in this battle. The last ship is the Stewart the last surviving example of a Edsall-class destroyer escort and one of only two surviving destroyer escorts. Its predecessor was a Clemson-class that was scuttled at Java and subsequently refloated by the Japanese.
