Would any DD captains be able to give me a rundown of the gunboat DDs?

I’m a novice DD captain with the Z-52 and the Elbing and i was wondering what the other gunboat DDs had to offer in terms of strengths, weaknesses and playstyles.

Please and Thank You!

Best coal ship to buy

I’m in a bit of a dilemma – I’ve only just saved up enough to buy a decent T. X-class ship (260,000 coal, I also have no problems to buy lower tier !), but I’m not sure which ones are the best choices. I’d like either a good destroyer (like the Jäger) or a cruiser (I’ve heard a lot about the Napoli, but is it really that good?) – or perhaps an aircraft carrier? What would you recommend, bearing in mind that I’m more of a battleship and cruiser player?

I'm playing randoms, op and brawl. I'm also searching for a new line to start (I just finished US cruisers and BBs) Are French DD and SA BB good ?

Japanese Research Ship

I've been playing on and off for years now and will soon reach my first research ship when I realize, how is there no Japanese ship in there? Was one previously available that was later removed or there's just never been any? Feels really weird that Japan doesn't have one considering even the Commonwealth has 3 and Italy has 2.

250 years of independence Battlepass worth it?

I completed the free battle pass today, is it worth buying the premium for 2500 dubs if I already own Arizona? What is the compensation for already owning Arizona?

Conqueror Help

Hi, i have a conqueror and I just cant get the hang of how to play this. I either get too far forward and obliterated by focused fire. or i try to play at mid to long range and feel i don't really contribute properly.

Build

Equipment

  • Main Arm Mod 1
  • Dmg Ctrl Sys 1
  • main battery mod 2 (+15% traverse speed, I struggled with the turn time of turrets so am trying this)
  • Steering Gears Mod 1 (+20 rudder shift time)
  • Concealment Sys Mod 1
  • Main battery Mod 2 (-12% reload +13% traverse)

Commander (Andrew Cunningham 14pts)

  • Em. Repair specialist
  • Grease the gears
  • Improved repair party
  • Furious
  • Concealment Expert

Any tips on how to play this much appreciated. Please be kind, if this build is bollocks.

o7 Captains!

The Tsunami Waves mod is not purely cosmetic

Tallinn

Since your ship's visual position updates with your camera, the camera's height changes, which moves your reticle with each wave.

Just for info.

Im a new player .which nations between UK and USA have the best battleships for pushing forward and brawling at closer range. I know Germany is the best but I only like 1 ship in the whole tech tree (bismarck obviously), so just between UK and USA since I like most ships in their tech trees.

Im little mad UK doesn't have Rodney, Hood, and Duke of York. But I still love British battleships. And I love usa battleships too.

Tier 10 btw

Remember that meme?

Well it turned out to be real, this guy on a Hayate with 16 total games

A Dalarna appreciation post.

This is my only supership, and I play it very rarely.

Partly because it's expensive, and partly because yeah, I realize that its water missiles aren't much fun for T9 and T10 "normies" to play against.

I play it for the moment the supercarrier on the enemy team decides to strike me, and I evaporate his entire squadron in 5 seconds. And for the second time he tries it, figuring the first time it was a fluke.

After that, he doesn't send any more planes in my direction.

An Unqualified Unnecessarily Long Deep Dive Into Ipiranga

\"A hypothetical design for a Brazilian Navy battleship developed based on British shipbuilding advancements of the 1920s and 1930s. The ship would feature dual-purpose and anti-aircraft armament of American origin, likely received during modernisation in the U.S. in the 1940s.\"

Released into World of Warships around September 4th, 2024 as part of Update 13.8, Ipiranga is a battleship that, while mostly fictional, has some plausibility and real world links to ships built during the 1915s and Admiralty ideology at the time. The following is an unqualified retrospective and deep dive into the events that surrounded the time of her hypothetical construction, a brief overview of shipbuilding at the time, a likely timeline leading up to her construction, and the likely candidate who would eventually become the Ipiranga we know and love today. I don't expect this to get much traction, I only wanted to share it for the fun of it.

Historical Info

During World War I, the Royal Navy would develop plans to build what would then be considered the next generation of warships following the Queen Elizabeth-class battleships, the Admiral-class battlecruisers. Four ships, named after former Royal Navy admirals, would have made up the class: HMS Hood, Rodney, Howe, and Anson. Hood was the first to be laid down on May 31st, 1916, the same day as the Battle of Jutland. Battlecruisers HMS Indefatigable, Queen Mary, and Invincible would be sunk alongside other warships resulting in the loss of 6,784 British sailors. This would result in the work on Rodney, Howe, and Anson to be temporarily suspended on March 9th, 1917 due to an investigation into possible design flaws regarding shell or shell fragments being able to penetrate into the ship's magazines.

These investigations would lead to a range of modifications to the Admiral-class's armour scheme, resulting in a 50% improvement to their armour, thickened deck protection, thickened magazine crowns, and enhanced torpedo protection. It would also result in a reduction in speed and the reclassification of the class from battlecruiser to fast-battleship. Unfortunately, some of these improvements weren't given to Hood due to how far she was in construction at the time compared to her sisters and by then the changes done would have constituted Rodney, Howe, and Anson their own class. Hood would be launched on August 22nd, 1918 as further improvements were planned out for her sisters including a change in their turret armour, bulkheads, shell rooms, magazines and a redesigned bridge structure. These vast improvements wouldn't be realised as construction of Rodney, Howe, and Anson would then be cancelled by the Admiralty on February 27th, 1919 as priorities would soon change. HMS Hood would be completed the following year on May 15th as the only surviving iteration of her class.

Of the three ships cancelled Anson would have been the youngest of her sisters, having been laid down on November 9th, 1916 by Armstrong Whitworth in Elswick, Newcastle. At the time of her cancellation Anson was most likely still in the early stages of hull construction. Had construction continued after the suspension, Anson would've most likely been able to have been built up to the improved specifications given to her class and would have differed greatly from Hood in looks, speed, and armour. However, seeing as there was a priority for material in the construction of merchant and escort ships, she would have faced significant delays. There was also the Washington Naval Treaty which would be signed on February 6th, 1922 and would have likely prohibited any further construction of Anson according to its definitions, terms, and limitations.

The Washington Naval Treaty would define battleships and battlecruisers as "capital ships" which as explained in Chapter II, Section 2, Part 4 - Definitions is "...a vessel of war, not an aircraft carrier, whose displacement exceeds 10,000 tons (10,160 metric tons) standard displacement, or which carries a gun with a calibre exceeding 8 inches (203. millimetres)." It would further impose limits on the total capital ship tonnage of each signatory country, limit the construction of future capital ships to 35,000 tonnes per ship with no guns in excess of 16 inches (406 millimetres), and would require that all capital ships not retained be disposed of by means of permanent sinking of the vessel, scrapping of the vessel, or converting the vessel to target use. Chapter I, Article XVIII of the treaty would also explicitly prohibit the disposal of any ship through the sale, gifting, or transfer of the ship to another navy.

Her time in the Royal Navy would have ended before it had begun, leaving Anson with only one viable choice for her future: Brazil, the only country in Latin America to fight in World War I. Their first glimpse into the war would be just off the shores of Trindade Island on September 14th, 1914 as HMS Carmania, a former ocean liner turned merchant cruiser, would go into battle against SMS Cap Trafalgar, a former ocean liner turned merchant raider. Soon afterward, HMS Carmania would sink her opponent, but not without having sustained severe damage herself. Listing badly, she would be rescued by other Royal Navy vessels and escorted into Pernambuco, Brazil. The country would go onto have several vessels sunk by German U-boats, the first confirmed strike being the merchant ship Rio Branco on May 3rd, 1916, followed by the steamship Paraná on April 5th, 1917. The Germans would torpedo additional Brazilian vessels between May and November, leaving Brazil to declare war on the Central Powers that same year.

On January 30th, 1918, the Naval Division for War Operations (Divisão Naval em Operações de Guerra, or DNOG) would be established to patrol the South Atlantic Ocean and conduct an anti-submarine campaign. Two cruisers, Rio Grande do Sul and Bahia, four destroyers, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, and Santa Catarina, and two support ships, Belmonte and Laurindo Pitta, would make up the DNOG. The naval force would see action on August 25th, 1918 with an attempted torpedo attack by the Germans and in response, the Brazilians would destroy their first U-boat with several depth charges. Following the war, Brazil would take part in the Versailles Peace Conference and become a founding member of the League of Nations.

Having suffered an economic crisis due to a drop in rubber and coffee exports, Brazil would leave the war in a much better state than it had entered, enjoying favourable trading opportunities from the global demand for goods and raw materials. This in effect expanded Brazil's industrial base, allowing them to manufacture goods that were previously imported and helped further improve their economy. Brazil would also be financially compensated by Germany for the lives, ships, and shipments lost during the war and was allowed to keep over 70 ships that it had seized from the Central Powers which would then be incorporated into the Brazilian merchant fleet. As a newly participating member in international affairs and with a newly revitalised economy, thriving industry base, and a firm grip on international trade, Brazil would have more than enough reason to commission a new battleship into service. This, along with the fact that Brazil's battleships Minas Geraes and São Paulo were deemed outdated, poorly maintained, and unfit for duty during the war that their offer to join the Royal Navy's Grand Fleet was turned down, may have made Brazil even more determined to commission a battleship to protect their newly acquired interests from future harm.

Brazil may have reached out to various ship builders from the United Kingdom around mid-1918 to early-1919 regarding design proposals for a new battleship. Given that many ship builders at the time were busy supporting the country's efforts to rebuild their merchant and escort fleet after a costly war, these attempts would have been in vain. However, it should be noted that both Armstrong Whitworth and Vickers Limited had many export designs completed for Brazil in the 1910s and 1920s for different cruisers and destroyers, so it is reasonable to assume that Brazil might have had greater success communicating with them. Armstrong in particular would've had extensive prior experience with Brazil, having planned and built up all the country's previous battleships before the war. It could be theorised that on February 27th, 1919 Armstrong, now with a cancelled order and Anson's partially completed hull on their hands, could've reached out to Brazil with a proposal in mind.

There could have been countless ideas and suggestions exchanged between Brazil and Armstrong regarding the construction of the now-named Ipiranga. This would be expected with design proposals, so I won't go into detail of every possible proposal considered. However, I will touch on Ipiranga's final design, turret layout, and armour scheme as it appears to include elements of the N3, J3, and G3 battlecruiser proposals, the Admiral-class battlecruiser designs, and Armstrong's previous battleship designs. Firstly, Ipiranga's hull closely resembles her-half sisters but with slight differences in length and width. This could have been the result of modifications to her engine layout and a different approach to anti-torpedo bulges, which may have substituted air for sealed steel crushing tubes, much like the N3, J3, and G3 battlecruisers. The six-turret design may have been inspired from Brazil's previous battleship, HMS Agincourt (requisitioned Brazilian battleship Rio de Janeiro), which was taken by the British government at the start of the war and never made it to Brazil. Armstrong Whitworth had also constructed Agincourt, but with an absurd fourteen 12"/45 (30.5 cm) Mark XIII guns on seven twin mount turrets at the request of the Brazilian government's preference for smaller calibre and faster firing guns. Lastly, Ipiranga's armour design would feature a 356 mm waterline belt, similar to that of the G3 battlecruiser but significantly thinner. This thinness could have been due to costs or weight savings seeing as Ipiranga would also have stronger citadel protection closer to her bow and stern unlike any of her-half sisters.

Weapon Specifications

Main Battery:

  • Ipiranga's 356 mm guns may seem odd, but it should be mentioned that the calibre was quite common for export ships and guns made for other countries at the time, especially in a twin mount. Examples include HMS Canada (requisitioned Chilean battleship Almirante Latorre), Japanese battleship Yamashiro, and Japanese battlecruiser Kongô.
  • While I don't believe Ipi would've been built with the exact 14-inch (35.6 cm) Mark VII guns the King George V-class would come to have, she might have started out with something similar to the 14"/45 (35.6 cm) Marks I and Mark III guns. Funny enough, it's said the older Mark I's and III's may have had slightly better performance compared to the Mark VII's.

First Rank Secondary Guns:

  • Ipiranga's first rank of 8 twin mount 152 mm secondary guns (6"/50 BL Mark XXII's) are somewhat plausible as they were made for the never-built G3 battlecruisers which, rather ironically, were meant to be the successors to the Admiral-class battlecruisers. Approximately 40 of these guns were made, 24 of which would've gone to the Nelson-class battleships HMS Nelson and HMS Rodney. This would've left just enough guns for Ipi and, if this path was taken, chances are more of these guns would've been built to keep in reserves.
  • However, there's a less chance of her having those same 152 mm guns upon commissioning. If Brazil had made an attempt to purchase Anson and gone through ship planning with Armstrong to create Ipiranga, there's a possibility she wouldn't have been allowed access to the aforementioned guns due to inventory constraints or the fact she was "no longer Royal Navy" and equipment procurement at the time prioritised Royal Navy commissioned ships first and foremost. In light of this possibility, an alternative could've been the similar but older 6"/45 BL Mark XII guns which were widely used on Queen Elizabeth and Royal Sovereign-class battleships and, from my research, more widely available.

Second Rank Secondary Guns:

  • Her second rank of 6 single mount dual purpose 127 mm secondary guns (5"/38 Mark 12's) are entirely plausible as a result of a US refit around the 1940s. However, it should be noted that the US prioritised the installation of these guns on US cruisers at the time.
  • Unsurprisingly, the chances of Ipi having these 127 mm guns upon commissioning is non-existent. An alternative could've been for her to keep the 4"/45 QF Mark V and Mark XV guns or the 4.7"/40 QF Mark VIII guns as commissioned which would've also been dual-purpose weapons.

Anti-Aircraft Defence:

  • Ipiranga's 20 mm Oerlikon and 40 mm Bofors guns are also plausible as many British ships would've received a similar weapons suite as a result of a US refit around the 1940s. To the best of my knowledge, unlike the Mark 12's these would be widely available but again, it should be noted that the US prioritised the installation of these guns on US cruisers at the time.
  • A possible alternative upon commissioning could've been the 2-pdr [4 cm/39 (1.575")] QF Mark II, Mark II* or Mark II*C guns paired with the 12-pdr [3"/45 (76.2 cm)] 20cwt QF HA Marks I, II, III or IV guns.

I'm sorry, but why do we need this sort of MM in Co-op?

I'm sorry, but why does MM feel the need to do this sort of BS? Only 2 real players, so it fills the rest of the team with 2 superships (no real players in superships), 2 subs, and a CV. Oh, and it was a fucking arms race battle. Who asked for this? Who wants this? Who finds this fun?
