From Hermione to Carrie Bradshaw + Updated Routine
For context the first photo is before I wash my hair, after brushing it. I prefer to brush and detangle my hair while it is dry, prior to washing it. I was out on a boat for a prolonged period of time with my hair down, so my hair was dry and wind beaten for sure, hence why it looks even worse than it normally would after brushing it out.
Here’s the updated routine:
Shampoo twice on wash days with the Nexxus; Therappe Advanced Hydration Shampoo. I wash my hair every 2-3 days as needed.
My typical conditioner is the Nexxus: Humectress Advanced Hydration Conditioner. I deep condition my hair once a week with the Ouai Treatment Masque.
When I step out of the shower I absorb only the excess water that would otherwise be dripping from my hair with a microfiber towel.
I apply 7 pumps of the Giovanni: 2 Chic Frizz Be Gone Leave-In Conditioning and Styling Elixir. I prefer to rake this through my hair to work out any final tangles that have been left in my hair and to get it evenly distributed.
I apply a dime sized amount of Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls Styling Lotion. I start with a raking motion to begin, and as the product absorbs into my hair I begin to scrunch and encourage clumps to form.
I wait 15 minutes for my hair to dry slightly. When my hair is somewhere between wet and damp, I scrunch 7 pumps of the Matrix Food For Soft Mousse (7 is my favorite number lol)
At this point, it’s time to allow my hair to air dry to about 90% dryness. I break the cast created by the mousse using the Bumble and Bumble BB Styling Oil, you guessed it, 7 pumps.
At that point, it’s just about allowing my hair to fully dry and see the results! My hair wasn’t fully dry in the photo on the right, but I did want to capture when the curls/waves are their tightest :)
To protect my hair while sleeping I put it in a loose braid with a scrunchie!
feeling like green is the color of this weekend 🌿25f🌿
This is the kind of photo only your mom can take 🥰 25
Such an amazing weekend with so much to be thankful for 🌸
I tried something different!
So I’m always struggling to find the perfect routine for my hair. Personally, I like my hair best air dried after a dip in ocean water. I know there are salt water sprays that are out there, but I’ve yet to try them and I’m not sure if it’s good for your hair to always be salty lol…
I saw a person who had more fine textured hair post recently saying that they waited until their hair was damp to apply their products, rather than applying directly to wet hair. Maybe I’ve been influenced by all those bowl routines of women dunking their heads into water and applying products directly 😅
Anyway I tried applying while damp and it worked so well!!! Maybe my hair is fine, maybe it isn’t and this was just a fluke, who knows. Anyway, here’s the full routine for anyone interested:
I only brush my hair before showering, to detangle and de-shed any hair, as well as stimulate my scalp.
Once in the shower:
- Nexxus Therappe Advanced Hydration Shampoo (normally I follow with the Nexxus Humectress Advanced Hydration Conditioner, but today was an everything shower)
- Ouai Treatment Masque
- After towel 😬 drying my hair, I applied a dime sized amount of Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls Styling Lotion. I raked it through my hair to apply evenly.
- I applied the Giovanni 2 Chic Frizz Be Gone Leave in Conditioning and Styling Elixer. Raking in first, then scrunching my hair to encourage curls to form.
After applying the products, I went outside for a walk because I feel that my hair always dries better outside, maybe I’m just crazy!
Let me know what you think and if you can help me understand my hair texture better. I feel that I struggle with accurately perceiving things related to my body and hair.
