Does anyone else’s symptoms almost disappear during a viral infection? What could this indicate?

I have a chronic condition (mainly urinary urgency/frequency and pelvic discomfort) that is present almost every day.
Something really strange happens whenever I get a viral infection like the flu or a bad cold: my usual symptoms almost completely disappear. It’s as if my body temporarily “forgets” I have this condition. Once I recover from the infection, the symptoms gradually come back.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I’m also curious if anyone knows what this could indicate from an immunological or neurological perspective. Could it suggest an immune system issue, neuroinflammation, mast cell involvement, central sensitization, or something else?
I’d love to hear if you’ve had a similar experience or if you’ve come across any explanations.

Did anyone need longer intervals between estrogen doses?

Has anyone with vestibulodynia or sensitive tissues found that estrogen wasn’t the problem itself, but using it on consecutive days?
I usually tolerate the first dose (vaginal estradiol, estradiol + testosterone, or transdermal estradiol) just fine, but the second consecutive day often causes burning, urethral symptoms, or pelvic floor irritation.
Did anyone do better with longer intervals (every few days instead of daily) and eventually adapt?

Provoked vestibulodynia with urethral symptoms and food-triggered urinary flares?

Hi everyone. I’m looking for people with similar symptoms.
My symptoms started after several years of hormonal birth control use. I stopped the pill in 2022 and improved significantly during 2023. However, after a sexual intercourse episode in 2024 (while I was on top), my symptoms returned and have persisted since then.
My current diagnosis is suspected hormonally mediated provoked vestibulodynia. The pain is provoked rather than spontaneous, and I usually improve somewhat around ovulation.
I have significant urinary symptoms, but they don’t seem bladder-related. I don’t have bladder pain or pain with filling. My symptoms feel much more urethral: urinary frequency, urgency, urethral discomfort, and burning.
I also react to certain foods, especially glutamate-rich foods (soy sauce, MSG, some restaurant foods). During these episodes, I produce a large amount of very clear urine, even without increasing my fluid intake, and the frequent urination eventually irritates my urethra.
I seem to have a very reactive vulvar mucosa as well. Several antihistamines, including montelukast, worsened my urinary symptoms. I recently started topical estriol 0.5% + testosterone 0.2% because my doctor suspects hormonally mediated vestibulodynia related to long-term birth control use.
Has anyone experienced vestibulodynia with predominantly urethral symptoms or possible food-triggered urinary flares?

Frequent urge to urinate that improves during ovulation/fertile window. Anyone else?

Hi everyone,

I have a constant urge to urinate and increased urinary frequency, which has a big impact on my daily life. I don’t have constant pain—only provoked pain—but the urinary symptoms are there most of the time.

What’s interesting is that I consistently feel better during my fertile window/around ovulation, and then the symptoms worsen again afterward.

Has anyone else noticed urinary symptoms improving during ovulation? Did you ever find out if it was hormone-related or due to another condition?

Has anyone reacted badly to Vagifem/estradiol but tolerated estriol?

Has anyone reacted badly to Vagifem/estradiol but tolerated estriol?
I tried vaginal estradiol (Vagifem) and it actually made me worse. My mucosa became even more reactive and irritated.
What’s confusing is that I also tried industrially compounded estriol, and it basically did nothing — it didn’t improve me, but it also didn’t make me worse.
Now I’m wondering if the issue could be:
the estradiol itself,
the base/excipients in Vagifem,
or simply the fact that my mucosa is currently extremely reactive.
For context, I seem to react to almost everything right now. Even an iron infusion recently made my symptoms flare badly, so I may just be hypersensitive overall at the moment.
Has anyone here done better with systemic hormones instead of local estrogen when the vaginal tissue was too reactive? Or had to switch bases/formulations because of sensitivity?
Would really appreciate hearing similar experiences.
