CANADIAN COAT OF ARMS FINALS!!

(Since responses have been dropping off on this I cut out the semi-finals and skipped right to a 4 way battle for the winner)

Who would win in a fight if the elements of each province's coat of arms meet on the battlefield? Hosers submit their comments detailing who would win each battle and why and the winner is the most upvoted comment. 

REPRESENTING BC

Our Western Div champs bring a elk and a bighorn sheep (who is probably sleeping with your girlfriend), topped with a golden lion ready to laydown, motto: "A shining without sunset"

REPRESENTING NUNAVUT

Northern Div winners bring a narwhal, a cariboo and an igloo to hunker down in when the fighting gets rough. motto "Our Land, Our Strength"

REPRESENTING NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

Straight off eking out an Atlantic Div win, N&L bring two Beothuk warriors, two unicorns, two lions and a majestic moose to the fight. motto:"Seek ye first the kingdom of God"

REPRESENTING ONTARIO

The Central Div title holders bring with them a moose, a deer and a black bear. motto: "Loyal she began, and loyal she shall remain".

Nos champions de la division Ouest présentent un wapiti et un mouflon d'Amérique (qui partage probablement la couche de votre copine), surmontés d'un lion doré prêt à se coucher. Devise : « Un éclat sans crépuscule ».

REPRÉSENTANT LE NUNAVUT

Les vainqueurs de la division Nord présentent un narval, un caribou et un igloo pour se réfugier lorsque les combats s'intensifient. Devise : « Notre terre, notre force »

REPRÉSENTANT TERRE-NEUVE-ET-LABRADOR

Vainquant de justesse la division Atlantique, Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador amène deux guerriers béothuks, deux licornes, deux lions et un orignal majestueux au combat. Devise : « Cherchez premièrement le royaume de Dieu ».

REPRÉSENTANT L'ONTARIO

Les tenants du titre de la division Centrale amènent avec eux un orignal, un cerf et un ours noir. Devise : « Fidèle depuis toujours, fidèle à jamais ».

Le vainqueur de ce match remporte la coupe !

THE ATLANTIC DIVISION

Representing Nova Scotia

A freakin' unicorn and a Mi'kmaq warrior with an arrow. Also two extra hands if you need them - one armoured, one not. motto "One hand defends, the other conquers"

Representing New Brunswick

Two white-tailed deer and a cool leaping salmon. Also a boat. motto: "Hope Restored"

Representing Newfoundland and Labrador

Two Beothuk warriors, two unicorns, two lions and a majestic moose. motto:"Seek ye first the kingdom of God"

Representing Prince Edward Island

A blue jay and two foxes (the official heraldry site says they're silver foxes. They look like black foxes to me. We could split the difference and just call them ninja foxes though). motto: "The small under the protection of the great"

Représentant la Nouvelle-Écosse

Une sacrée licorne et un guerrier mi'kmaq armé d'une flèche. Sans oublier deux mains supplémentaires au besoin : l'une cuirassée, l'autre nue. Devise : « Une main défend, l'autre conquiert »

Représentant le Nouveau-Brunswick

Deux cerfs de Virginie et un superbe saumon bondissant. Plus un bateau. Devise : « Espoir rétabli »

Représentant Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador

Deux guerriers béothuks, deux licornes, deux lions et un majestueux orignal. Devise : « Cherchez d'abord le royaume de Dieu »

Représentant l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard

Un geai bleu et deux renards (le site officiel d'héraldique précise qu'il s'agit de renards argentés ; pour moi, ils ressemblent plutôt à des renards noirs. On pourrait couper la poire en deux et les appeler simplement des « renards ninjas »). Devise : « Le petit sous la protection du grand »

Representing Nunavut

A cariboo and a narwhal (to attack on land and sea) and an igloo as home base.

Representing Northwest Territories

Two frickin' golden narwhals and a white fox are ready for battle.

Representing Yukon Territory

A Malamute - the goodest doggo of all! - is poised to strike into the icy hearts of all those who oppose him.

THE CENTRAL DIVISION

Representing Quebec

Three - count 'em THREE - fleurs-de-lis, a golden lion (which has just consumed what I can only imagine to be a blue raspberry slurpee) and three green maple leaves. Note the defiant 'Je me souviens' motto AND the newly bare top to the coat as Quebec overthrew the monarchy just this January and kicked the crown off their head.

Representing Ontario

A black bear, a moose and a deer, three gold maple leafs and the motto "*Ut incepit fidelis sic permanet" Loyal she began, loyal she remains (*which actually refers to the Loyalist American refugees from the American Revolution who settled in Quebec)

LA DIVISION CENTRALE

Représentant le Québec

Trois fleurs de lys (oui, trois !), un lion d'or (qui vient sans doute de dévorer une boisson glacée à la framboise bleue) et trois feuilles d'érable vertes. Remarquez la devise provocatrice « Je me souviens » et le haut des armoiries désormais nu, car le Québec a renversé la monarchie en janvier dernier et s'est débarrassé de la couronne.

Représentant l'Ontario

Un ours noir, un orignal et un cerf, trois feuilles d'érable dorées et la devise « Ut incepit fidelis sic permanet » (Loyale depuis toujours, fidèle depuis toujours), qui fait référence aux réfugiés loyalistes américains de la Révolution américaine installés au Québec.

Representing BC

A wapiti (elk), a big horned sheep, and a golden lion in the King's royal crest.

Representing Alberta

A golden lion, a pronghorn antelope, and a beaver wearing a crown.

Representing Saskatchewan

A royal lion, a white tailed deer and another beaver wearing a crown.

Representing Manitoba

A horse, a unicorn, a bison...and another beaver wearing a crown.

Our combatants enter a battlefield of dogwood, a grassy mound of wild roses, a garland of red lillies, seven prairie crocuses, wheat and a forest of white spruce.

FIGHT!

Starting tomorrow and every successive Sunday, I propose a competitive battle between the elements on each province's Coat of Arms ie  Nunavut has the Cariboo and the Narwhal in its corner while PEI has Two foxes and a Blue Jay to fight for it.

We'll start with a Battle Royale style brawl to find the winner of each division and then 1v1 to each semi-finals leading to the final battle. Hosers submit their comments detailing who would win each battle and why and the winner is the most upvoted comment. Any questions/objections?

À partir de demain et chaque dimanche suivant, je propose un duel compétitif entre les éléments figurant sur les armoiries de chaque province. Par exemple, le Nunavut a le cariboo et le narval dans son coin, tandis que l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard a deux renards et un geai bleu.

Nous commencerons par un combat de type Battle Royale pour déterminer le vainqueur de chaque division, puis nous organiserons des demi-finales en 1 contre 1 jusqu'à la grande finale. Les participants devront soumettre leurs commentaires détaillant qui, selon eux, remporterait chaque duel et pourquoi. Le commentaire ayant reçu le plus de votes positifs sera déclaré vainqueur.
