Anyone here in Assiniboine College’s Practical Nursing (LPN) program in Brandon?

Hi everyone,
I’m considering the Practical Nursing (LPN) program at Assiniboine College in Brandon and was hoping to hear from current students or recent graduates.

I have a few questions:

\~ How has your experience been with the classes and instructors?

\~How are the clinical placements?
Is public transportation in Brandon reliable enough to get to campus and clinicals without a car?

\~Are clinical placements usually within Brandon, or were you sent to other rural sites?

I don’t have a car, so transportation is one of my biggest concerns.

I’m having a hard time deciding what to do. I’m waitlisted for the Practical Nursing (Winter 2027) program at the Ottawa campus, but I’ve received an offer for the Pembroke campus.
My biggest concern is transportation. I don’t have a car, and when I spoke with the clinical placement coordinator, I was told that clinical placements could be in Renfrew, Ottawa, or other nearby areas, which would make commuting very difficult. I’m willing to move to Pembroke for my studies, but I was hoping to complete my clinical placements in the same city rather than having to travel long distances.

I also received an offer for the Dental Hygiene program at the Ottawa campus, but lately I’ve been leaning more toward nursing.
Has anyone attended the Pembroke PN program without a car? How manageable was it, especially during clinical placements? Were you able to complete your placements in Pembroke, or did you have to travel to other cities?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience before I make my decision. Thank you....

I was wondering why the Practical Nursing program at Pembroke remains open for the January 2027 and May 2027 intakes, whereas all Ottawa intakes are currently waitlisted?

Can I use ChatGPT while taking MAP4C to complete my assignments ? Also, am I allowed to solve the questions on paper, take photos of my work, and upload them as a PDF?
How many total assignments does each unit have?

I received an offer for the Practical Nursing program at the Pembroke campus for January 2027. However, my preference is to attend the Ottawa campus, where I am currently waitlisted (b/w 1–20) for the same intake.

I’m wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation or has previously been accepted from the Ottawa waitlist?

I’d also love to connect with anyone starting PN in Pembroke in January 2027. One of my main concerns is transportation to clinical placements, as I don’t drive. I’d appreciate hearing about your plans or experiences regarding placement transportation and would love to connect with you guys before program startsss... 🥳🎉
