I don’t think him being a Communist arsonist would go over well with Godfather.

I’m cleaning out my in laws house on the south side of Chicago and came across medals, photos, training certificates and other documents from a Donald Michaels. We asked around to family and it sounds like these came from a footlocker purchased from an estate sale. We have no information on who this is.

I’d like to ensure these items get to a good place. Is there anywhere we can donate these? A veterans group or historical society? Any other recommendations?

My wife’s father passed away years before we started dating. I know he was in Vietnam, not sure if he was drafted or enlisted. I recognize the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and commendation medals. Anything about the other medals and ribbons here? I also found an article he was interviewed in from a military newspaper of some sort.

Is there a way to get access to his service record or what he did to merit these awards?

I would love to share some of what I find out with my wife.
