Appearance of the drainage after fistulotomy—was yours like that?

Hey guys, I'm having my second fistulotomy, it's been 23 days since the procedure. Is this light greenish discharge normal? (photo in the comments). I also had this discharge after my first fistulotomy, and it never stopped... Has anyone else experienced this discharge, this color? It doesn't have any odor...

Second fistulotomy: how to manage anxiety?

Hey everyone, how do you handle the situation of having to undergo multiple surgeries? It’s been really tough; it started back in February with an abscess. I had a fistulotomy in March, but it didn't fully heal after three months, so I had another fistulotomy 18 days ago. Now I find myself thinking about it all day long; I’m afraid to do anything for fear of messing up the healing process and having the surgery fail again. On the other hand, I see people who go about their lives normally and handle this really well. I’d love to know how you manage to make the days feel a bit lighter and stop dwelling on it so much—worrying about whether it’ll work out or go wrong this time...

What does normal healing discharge look like?

I had my second fistulotomy 17 days ago; the first one never fully healed and kept draining a small amount of whitish discharge for three months. It’s been 17 days since the second procedure, and healing is well underway, but there is still discharge—that same whitish, gelatinous kind—and it’s worrying me. For those who have recovered: is this type of discharge normal? Some say normal discharge is light yellow and fluid...

The outside is healing very quickly.

Hey everyone, has anyone had their fistulotomy wound close on the outside before the inside? Does it reopen when that happens? I’m worried—I had a fistulotomy 15 days ago, and the outer part is healing extremely fast, but the inside is still draining moderately. What if the outside closes before the inside? I’m concerned...

My fistulectomy failed, so we're going for a fistulostomy. Has anyone had Botox injections?

I underwent a fistulectomy at the end of March, and after 3 months of recovery, I unfortunately discovered that the surgery failed. I still have constant drainage and pain. I saw another surgeon who, after an anoscopy, was able to see the internal opening and has already scheduled a fistulostomy for tomorrow. He will also perform Botox injections along with the surgery. He says it greatly helps with healing and pain, as it prevents the sphincter from becoming tense, which hinders healing. Has anyone had Botox injections during the procedure? Did it really help in the post-operative period?

Does silver nitrate also work in this way?

Hey everyone, is silver nitrate also used for a wound that's stagnating, draining, and not closing? I'm 11 weeks post-fistulectomy and only a small opening remains near my anus that seems a bit deep and drains a clear, odorless mucus. My doctor mentioned applying silver nitrate to restart the healing process in this remaining opening. Has anyone been through a similar situation? I thought silver nitrate was only for excessive granulation tissue...

The wound reopened 11 weeks after surgery.

Has anyone here ever experienced this? It's been 11 weeks since I had a fistulectomy. Part of the wound was practically healed, with the skin quite purple, the color of the anus itself. However, today, suddenly, this skin that had already healed opened up again, as if a film had torn in a circular shape. There was no swelling or pain; the skin simply tore, and the granulation tissue underneath was exposed again.

I no longer know if the fistulostomy failed or not...

Hi everyone, how long would be the ideal time to wait before saying that a fistulostomy has failed? I'm 9 weeks post-fistulostomy, I still have little drainage, similar to a mucus, somewhat gelatinous and whitish. There is also still a small part of the wound, circular, the size of a pea, that hasn't healed, and that's where the drainage comes from. I don't see feces coming from this small hole, only this secretion. My doctor said to wait another 3 weeks to use silver nitrate, with the intention of restarting the healing of this area, honestly I don't know what's normal and what's not anymore...

What would be considered normal drainage 8 weeks post-fistulostomy?

I had a fistulostomy 8 weeks ago. The wound has healed almost completely, leaving only a tiny hole near the anus that drains very little, a clear/light greenish, mucus-like liquid with no odor. Would this be normal at 8 weeks? It seems like this small opening has been stagnant for about 3 weeks. Is the appearance of this drainage normal at 8 weeks?

Can I eat something outside the norm?

People who have an active fissure, how do you deal with food? Do you ever deviate from your usual diet and eat different things? Can I do this without harming my stools or making them hard? On those days, do I increase the dose of stool softener or water intake? I can't stand eating only the same foods every day anymore. Sometimes I feel like eating something sweet or a hamburger, but I'm afraid of harming my stools. I have a very painful fissure at the moment.

What types of carbohydrates should I eat?

Guys, what types of carbohydrates should I eat to avoid constipation or increased stool volume? I'm kind of tired of eating only mashed potatoes, oatmeal, or bananas... I've completely lost the pleasure of eating because of this condition. I miss eating a hamburger or something like that...

Does sitting cause harm or not? (post-surgery)

I'm 7 weeks post-fistulectomy, and during this time I've been avoiding sitting as much as possible, only allowing myself to drive for a few minutes. Not because of pain, but because I'm afraid it might hinder healing, as I don't feel pain when I sit. I don't know if I'm being too radical. Is sitting detrimental to healing? I really miss playing on the computer and studying sitting down again instead of lying down... My wound only has a small open hole the size of a pea or smaller, and the discharge is minimal.

Swelling at the edge of the scar after defecating.

Hey everyone, has anyone experienced swelling at the edge of a fistulectomy/fistulostomy scar after bowel movements? I've noticed that after a bowel movement, I have swelling at one edge of the scar, which isn't there the next morning. I also feel a slight irritation during the day at that swollen edge. Is this normal?

Guys, could this be a recurrence of the fistula?

Hi everyone, what are the main signs of fistula recurrence after surgery? I'm 7 weeks post-fistulectomy, the surgical wound is almost closed, with only a small opening near the anus. However, this morning I noticed a swelling starting next to that opening. When I run my finger over it, I feel a little pain, but nothing too strong. It doesn't throb or burn, just a slightly painful swelling to the touch. Has anyone experienced something similar?

post-fistulostomy fissure

Hi everyone, Has anyone else experienced a fissure caused by a fistulostomy? I had a fistulostomy 6 weeks ago, and I've noticed that a part of the wound closest to the anus isn't healing completely. I still have a yellow/greenish discharge in that area, and my doctor said it's a fissure caused by the fistulostomy surgery, causing pain for hours after bowel movements. Has anyone experienced this and recovered? Did you need another surgery?

Could these be symptoms of a fissure?

Hello everyone, I'm new here. I recently had a fistulectomy and I'm 6 weeks post-op. The wound itself is almost closed, only a small, deeper opening near the anus is taking a little longer to heal. However, since the 3rd week, I've started experiencing pain for hours after defecating. At first, I thought it was because of the surgery, but then I started to think I had developed a fissure. I wake up feeling great, almost pain-free, but when I go to the bathroom I feel a slight pain at the beginning of a bowel movement. As soon as it's over, I take a warm sitz bath, but 30 minutes later I feel like my anus is contracted. I start having sharp pains that last about 6 hours; these pains are like stabbing pains. It gets worse if I stand and improves a little when I lie down, but I don't see blood in my stool. Would these be clear symptoms of a fissure? Even without bleeding? I went to the general practitioner, he barely examined me and said I had a fissure, and prescribed 2% diltiazem. Does this medication really help with healing?

I underwent a fistulectomy 5 weeks ago. Today the wound is well filled, however there is still a very small opening near the anus that I see is having more difficulty filling, and yellowish discharge is still coming out of it. Has anyone else noticed that this part closest to the anus takes longer to close?
