HBO Max with ads is unwatchable. Is the ad-free plan worth it?

I’m watching a 20 minute episode and most ad break gives me five 30 second ads back to back. It kills the pacing and makes the whole experience frustrating. I get that ads pay for the cheaper subscription, but this feels excessive.

For those of you who’ve upgraded to the ad free plan, is it worth the extra money? Or are there still other annoyances?

Looking for movies with the same aesthetic

I’m looking for movie recommendations that capture that classic 80s horror vibe practical effects, grotesque monster designs, body horror, and that slimy, mutation aesthetic.

Any suggestions?

What was the “obscure movie” they almost mentioned?

I just got out of the theater and there was a moment where one of the characters was about to name an “obscure movie,” but then stopped and said it was too obscure and mentioned something else instead.

Now I’m really curious does anyone know what movie they were originally referring to?

Found my cat dead this morning… trying to understand what could have happened

Hey everyone,

I’m honestly still in shock writing this. Today my neighbor woke me up and told me they found my cat dead in their garden. His name was Felix. I have 3 cats, and Felix was the oldest he was 6 years old. We recently moved into a house with a garden, and he started exploring the neighborhood a lot. The other two cats don’t really like going outside, but Felix was always very outgoing and curious. About 3 months ago I took all three of them to the vet for a checkup, and they were all completely healthy. Then this Sunday I noticed something was off. His breathing seemed a bit heavier than usual, and he was very fatigued. Normally he jumps around a lot, but that day he couldn’t even jump onto the couch. I planned to take him to the vet the next day(Monday), but since it was Sunday everything was closed. He slept almost the entire day. Sometime early in the morning, he must have left the house. Then today I got woken up by my neighbor telling me they found him dead.

What really disturbs me is that there were no earlier signs before Sunday. He was active, normal… maybe a bit skinny, but he was always on the slimmer side. When they found him, his eyes and mouth were still open.

I’m trying to understand what could have caused this? Could it have been something sudden like poisoning, a heart issue, or something else?

Also… how do you deal with this kind of grief? It feels so sudden and unreal.

I will definitely take my other two cats to the vet today to get them examined.

Any advice or insight would really mean a lot. Thanks.

Building a chronological history movie watchlist and looking for recommendations

I’m currently putting together a chronological watchlist of films that follow the history of humanity from early civilizations all the way to the modern world.

The idea is to create a continuous timeline using narrative films that capture important historical eras and events (not strictly documentaries, but movies that represent the spirit and reality of their time).

So far, I’ve built a pretty large list covering ancient history, medieval periods, WWI, WWII, the Cold War, and modern conflicts. However, I’ve noticed that a lot of the films I’ve included are heavily centered around American or Western perspectives. That’s why I wanted to ask here especially from history and film enthusiasts. Do you have any recommendations for important historical films I might be missing? I’m especially looking to make the list more international and globally balanced (Asia, Africa, Middle East, Latin America, etc.).

Would really appreciate suggestions from both history nerds and cinephiles. Trying to make this feel like a truly global journey through human history.

Thanks!

The list so far: https://boxd.it/UlJtY

P.S. The films don’t necessarily have to be the “best” in terms of filmmaking, what matters more is that they effectively represent or cover their historical time period. Also, if you notice any mistakes, inaccuracies, or better alternatives for certain eras, feel free to correct me.
