Live in Northeast Kansas, these come out around July-September. They seem to come down from the trees on what looks like silk? Also move like inchworms. What is it?

My dad died in 2014 from a sudden cardiac arrest. I never got to say goodbye and lately I’ve been struggling mentally with that. I want to know that he didn’t suffer and that he knows how much we miss him. I don’t know what I’m looking for, I’ve never done this before but at the ripe age of 35, I’m really needing my dad.
