My Personal Ranking of the Dolls That Look the Least Like Their Animated version
5. Bunny Blanc:
Personally, I feel like Bunny's doll never really captured the essence of her 2D design. Their faces look very different, and while the outfit is fairly accurate overall, there are still a few differences I noticed. The skirt should actually be made up of two separate pieces, but on the doll it's molded as a single piece. The sleeves should be white, but they're black and shorter on the doll. On top of that, she's missing her purple fishnet tights entirely—they weren't included on the doll at all.
Also, I don't know if it's just me, but the doll's hair looks like a pale blonde, when it really should be white with gray streaks.
4. Farrah:
Farrah's design is actually pretty simple, without a lot of intricate details or standout elements. The doll stays true to that simplicity, but it also makes some questionable choices. For example, the skirt of her dress should have purple pleats, but they're missing. The headband also isn't completely faithful to the original design. On top of that, her wings should be translucent, but the doll gives them a solid silver-gray color instead.
3. Courtly Jester:
Courtly's doll is missing a lot of detail, especially on her boots and accessories, since many of those pieces were simply painted in a single color. Her top is also quite different from the animated version. Another noticeable change is her hair: in the show, her bangs cover her left eye, but on the doll they don't cover it at all.
2. Meeshell Mermaid:
This one is probably the most disappointing because Meeshell is one of the few characters whose design is on par with the series' earliest character designs. However, when it comes to the doll, they almost look like completely different characters.
The color palette is drastically different. The animated version uses bright pastel colors, while the doll uses much stronger, more saturated colors. The doll's hair is a vivid hot pink, whereas the animated version has a much softer pastel pink. There's also a pastel pink-to-light blue gradient in the original design that was completely replaced with red on the doll.
The skirt is another major difference. In the animated version, it's a light seafoam green, while the doll's is a much brighter turquoise. The original skirt also has a front slit and more layered ruffles that give it a softer, more natural flow, but the doll simplifies that entire structure.
As for the accessories, the doll is missing her earrings, her shoes are plain white and much simpler than the original, and her hair accessory is positioned incorrectly. In the animated design, it's not a tiara, but for some reason the doll turns it into one.
1. Alistair Wonderland:
This one frustrates me almost as much as Meeshell's, but honestly, it bothers me even more because Alistair is one of my favorite characters. The doll is extremely basic overall and lacks a lot of important details, so it's frustrating to see that they couldn't faithfully adapt such a simple design and still ended up getting it wrong.
His shirt is completely plain and doesn't include the pattern from the animated version. His coat is much too short, and his pants are a much lighter shade when they should actually be dark. And then there's the hair... I know it's difficult to recreate the show's hairstyle in doll form, but in the series his hair has a much more neutral blond tone, whereas the doll gives him a bright golden blonde instead.
