Got sexually harassed by a 70 year old dude at a wedding and feeling so gross rn

I went to my cousin's wedding two days ago and had someone nearly pulling a Ted Bundy on me. It was a small wedding with at max 30 guests including families and friends, but there was also this 70 year old real estate agent that apart from working with my aunt on selling a house nearly a decade ago, nobody knew.

Nobody invited him, he caught wind of my cousin having her wedding and insisted that he come and take photos for her. My cousin actually got into a huge fight with my aunt (her mom) because she hated that dude (later I found out why), but her mom said she was too polite to reject his coming to the wedding. I myself suspect she just wanted those free photos.

I personally am not that close with my cousin so I knew virtually no one at the event, and thought that real estate agent was a very close family friend. As soon as the vows were exchanged and we entered into a kind of a recess he began striking a conversation with me, my aunt, and my grandma. It was normal and polite, just small talks, and everything was alright. But then my aunt left to help my cousin change, and my grandma decided to take a nap and all hell broke loose.

I went on a walk around the dining area (it's an out-the-door wedding at a golf club) and he found me there. It was just the two of us, and he started talking about how he's actually also a part-time great photographer and invited to take photos of me to show off his skills. I was like okay, not thinking too much because it was only one or two photos, but he just kept going! At my cousin's wedding telling me to go here or go there, do this or do that, taking about dozens photos of ME, at my cousin's wedding! I was already feeling very uncomfortable and impolite so I decided to stop. (Later I found out he actually took another dozens of photos of me behind my back without me knowing.)

I am a really gullible person so at that time I was still thinking that he might just be someone really passionate about taking photos and being really old—not really equipped with all the social etiquettes. But then he started saying to me privately how ugly my cousin looks: how her skin's terrible, how her makeup's too heavy and how she has an awful personality. I was like, what??? Because anyone would tell you my cousin is an instagram celebrity level 10/10, she's without a doubt pretty. (And even if she's not, why would you ever say that to anyone??) In contrast, he then said I was so pretty, have great skin, great posture, great skintone, just great everything, and that I could even enter beauty pageants and win (which is an obvious lie but he made it sound genuine).

He then offered me to go on a private photo trip with him, somewhere in the Canadian mountains, ALONE, this Friday. Saying very explicitly for me to not bring my aunt and grandma because "they are too slow." Alarm bells rang so much in my head at that moment, the face of one million serial killers flashing by. This was not him being polite, btw. He offered this to me five or six times throughout the wedding but never once mentioned it to anyone else. It was like he was deliberately not wanting others to know. In hindsight, I think he's probably planning to rape me in the mountains.

But this doesn't end there. I didn't tell anyone directly at the wedding because 1. My parents weren't there, and 2. My aunt and grandma would overreact and ruin my cousin's wedding. So I decided to wait until we all get back. At the dinner he was getting very touchy, putting his hand on my thigh when I was getting jittery, putting his arm around my waist when we were taking group photos, and everything just seem so gross to me even after two days. Like thinking about these and how I was used make me want to puke so bad.

He also asked me repeatedly to add his contact, which I didn't at the wedding. I said I had no signal there and will add him once I get back to avoid drama. (Probably should've just rejected him but I didn't want to cause trouble at someone else's wedding.)

I confided in my friends and parents that night after the wedding and they all agreed that he's not someone who's just impolite but someone who's a creep and had absolute awful intents. The following morning I talked to my aunt and grandma, and my aunt showed her their conversation after the wedding. He had sent her every photo he took, except those containing me! And then he asked my aunt to "notify her niece to add his contact." Yes he actually used the word notify. He was definitely using those photos, both taken with consent and without, to bait me. She also told me that a few years ago he tried to hit on my cousin with literally the same things he said to me, but failed obviously. (I don't understand why she still allowed him to come to the wedding afterwards, I'm also kind of upset over this.)

I really want him to delete those photos and expose him to everyone around, but right now it seems like there's nothing I can do. My family has collectively blocked him. But apart from that, I don't see how there's anything I can do. I learned that he was talking unprompted photos of me because he showed me one of them, and many times I caught his camera pointing at me so he must've took close to a hundred in total. I am feeling so angry and gross right now and just want to rant. He was definitely planning to do something to me in the mountains, I hope he rots in hell.

EconLab at UCSD is paying students to participate in studies -- sign up today

The Economics Laboratory on campus (Malk Hall, by Goody's) is looking for study participants. We run short paid studies year-round and we're recruiting for sessions this week. Most sessions are about an hour, and pay varies by study — recent ones have averaged around $20-25. No econ background needed, all majors and years welcome. Sign up for the participant pool here: econlab.ucsd.edu — once you're in, you just pick session times that work for you.

To the guy who won’t stop honking his bloody horn at two am

I’m gonna get you and you’re gonna pay. For so many nights already you’ve drove past Alianza during the night blasting your horn over and over again. I can’t sleep, neither can my roommate. If I find you I swear

Summer Session II late payment?!

Hi, I just logged into my tritonlink account and saw I had 1040 dollars on balance. I haven't logged on in a week or two and they weren't there before. The TSS has temporarily closed the TritonPay app down and now I have to pay with another site with my credit card, I did that and my balance is still there.

I don't know what these 1040 dollars are for, and I am deathly afraid of my classes being dropped because this is my final quarter and I need it to graduate. The deadline was July 27th for summer session II payment, but right now my classes are still there and nothing has happened (not on hold).

What should I do right now? I tried calling everywhere but everywhere is closed until tomorrow.

Need advice, my advisor thinks my SOP draft intro is bad

Hi all. I am currently in the process of writing my SOP to apply for MSBAs. I know this is important so I want to get it right. I have been reading many advice and comments about how I should have an intro on (or at least incorporate in) why I want to pursue an MSBA degree and what drove me to it.

So I wrote an intro of roughly 140 words (the total word count is ~900) saying how a book in the field really peaked my interest and led me to develop my unique perspective in data analytics. But my advisor (who is my boss at the university lab, PhD student himself) thinks this is a terrible idea, and that I should cut to the chase and just describe my academic background (which I do need to describe in more detail).

On one hand, I've seen many posts and guides saying how a good hook is important and many schools ask why I decided to pursue this field; on the other hand, my advisor is himself a PhD student, so he's gone through the admission process before with decent results. I don't want to discuss this with him in length because it's already a pretty big ask for him to give advice on my SOP. I don't want him to think I am ungrateful.

Please let me know what you guys think... How I should proceed with editing my SOP.... Thanks

How long does it take for VAC to respond during Summer Session?

I just asked a pretty urgent question relating to graduation on VAC, not sure if they'd slow down their response rate during the summer. If someone has experience please let me know

Someone on rednote is webscraping all the ao3 fic to post on their own app

This thing is blowing up on rednote literally rn, a person has vibecoded an app that webscrapes ao3 fics, uploads them to her own app, and rates each fic.

Is there a protection against this? I don’t want someone to steal my fic, let alone rate it.

Which girl/figure is this passage alluding to?

The last few pages of Suttree (p459), when he's sick and having a fever. It could be just gibberish in a fever dream, but I want to make sure.

>We have witnessed this thing today which prefigures for all time the way in which historic orders proceed. And some said that the girl who bathed her swollen belly in the stone pool in the garden last evening was the author of this wonder they attended.
