L115 could be an indication of things to come
The L115 arrived in release build with a 25% muzzle velocity reduction from internal/labs builds, and I think this might be a test bed for how sniper rifles are balanced moving forward. Put one weapon out in a nerfed state and see what the numbers look like in terms of results and then blanket adjust muzzle velocity across the board in a future patch.
People have long since been complaining about how easy sniping is, and this is certainly made true with the 1100m/s of the mini scout (similarly but less so with the ESR), and from my use of the L115 thus far (1100 kills), I reckon DICE might see it as how the others should perform as well.
Logically, I can’t think of a reason why a record breaking sniper rifle would be outclassed in muzzle velocity by a small, modern hunting rifle. I expected the L115 to arrive with similar strength to the scout as it’s a new weapon and new weapons should be attractive, but that hasn’t happened.
Personally, I find the L115 acceptable from my own use. It’s slightly more difficult to use but ultimately comes with similar results once you’re used to its behaviour. I do expect the ESR and mini scout to have nerfs applied in the near future. Given that the L115 was initially tested at 1170m/s (70m/s higher than the scout), that signals to me that the L115 is supposed to be positioned slightly higher than the scout and a balance pass is on the way.
