My endgame keyboard (for now)

Finally received my Keyball39 after using Sofle for some time and I am loving it. I got it working with a dongle which drastically improves the battery life and connection quality, atleast for me.

Anyways, the keycaps I got are KLP Lamé printed in MJF Nylon, switches are:

- Kailh Deep Sea Silent Pro Tactile Whale (MX)

- Kailh Deep Sea Mini Tactile Whale (Choc V2) for thumbs

First time using both of these switches and I love how silent they are, they also have a small tactile bump which is perfect for me.

All in all really happy with the keeb and I think I will be sticking with this one for a long time.

Code editing slowness making me loose my mind

I've been using Rider and WebStorm for at least 5 years and love them to death, but half a year ago I moved away from Windows to CachyOS with the Niri tiling compositor. Running JetBrains IDEs on Linux has its quirks, but I got it running mostly smooth by using native Wayland + Vulkan rendering. Navigating panels, scrolling, etc. works like a breeze, but the main pain point I have is actually writing code.

While typing there can be a significant delay between pressing a key and the character appearing on screen. Sometimes the characters show up immediately but the caret lags behind the letters being written, and sometimes it swallows letters entirely.

All in all, writing text feels really disconnected and unpleasant, to the point where I've started dreading actually writing code and instead resorting to AI agents and copy-pasting just to avoid it. I've tried disabling solution-wide analysis, turning off various code completions and suggestions, nothing seems to do the trick.

I fired up VS Code just to confirm I'm not expecting too much, and in VS Code it genuinely works as you'd expect.

Has anyone experienced similar issues? Or if anyone from the JetBrains team could help, I'd really appreciate it, it's driving me nuts and I'm on the verge of switching to VS Code permanently.

Another schedulers question

Hi everyone!

I've been running CachyOS for about 6 months now and I'm loving it overall, but I've been dealing with some pretty bad system responsiveness issues whenever I build heavy Rust or C++ projects. We're talking cursor stuttering, 2+ second delays before typed characters appear on screen, basically the whole system grinding to a halt under load.

For context, I'm on a Dell XPS 17 9730 with an Intel i7-13700H and 32GB RAM. Worth noting that I never experienced this on Ubuntu, which is what made me start digging into what CachyOS was doing differently.

That rabbit hole eventually led me to sched-ext schedulers. After some experimenting I landed on trying scx_lavd and scx_bpfland, both of which made a noticeable difference in keeping the system usable during heavy builds.

My question is whether anyone has experience with other schedulers worth trying for this specific use case, heavy compilation while keeping the desktop responsive, or whether scx_lavd and scx_bpfland are generally considered the best options for this? Currently running scx_lavd with the performance profile since I'm almost always plugged in.

Thanks!

Chat bugged

Hi, I am new to using Etsy and I have 2 chats with the same seller. One I started before ordering from them as I had some questions about the product. After ordering I started another chat because I had to alter my order.

For some reason I can't enter the first chat anymore, I get the following error when I try to open the first chat. I tried opening the chat via browser on my PC and I get 401 Not Found error in the browser console. I can see the seller sent me some messages in that chat and it's so frustrating to not being able to see what they sent!

Is this a known bug someone else encountered? I tried contacting the support and they were useless, they said they will forward it to the technical department and that they will reach out to me via email but no one contacted me.

Question about Keyball39

I am looking to buy Keyball39, I was wondering which finger is supposed to hit those buttons under Z, X and C? I think it's too tucked in for thumbs but I guess it's also too tucked for the fingers responsible for those columns? Does anyone have this keyboard or some other with similar setup to tell me how "easy" is to hit those keys?

Are ergo keyboards with a trackball worth it?

I currently use a Sofle keyboard and I love that thing, as a web dev I can navigate my code editor almost entirely with the keyboard but as I am also frequently switching to the browser I have to use the mouse often.

I am looking at split keebs with a trackball like Keyball61. I never used a trackball and I am wondering is that thing precise enough for browser navigation and day to day pointer usage? Ofc for precise work like photoshop or gaming I would use a mouse but I was wondering if trackball is good enough to substantially decrease the need to move my hand off the keyboard.

Also what about trackpads, something like Toucan?

Any feedback is appreciated.
