Our party, illustrated by our DM (bonus custom villain)

I and my friends have been playing Exctinction Curse for a couple of years now, and since the story starts in a circus, our artist DM came up with this beatiful promotional poster concept for their artworks ^^ followed by a custom NPC antagonist named D'vorak and alternate artworks that were made as MTG proxies

Sera is my very own character. She's an airheaded elf Oracle of the Cosmos (you guessed it) whose family has been outcast after she was born under an eclipse, which was seen as ill omen. Her parents adopted a nomadic lifestyle and granted her a serene upbringing, until she decided to pursue her own path and join the circus. But now her cosmic powers are starting to strenghten and with them, a nefarious divine influence which seeks to corrupt them. In her quest to learn to control them, she turned to the highly untrustworthy D'vorak, who seems to be the only person who could teach her, but he seeks to help her only to fullfill his own cult's prophecy.

Rakam is our intrepid human Monk. Born and raised by caring parents who work in a very much not-caring circus, he also learned his swing tricks in the same abusive work environment. With his parent's blessings, he moved to a smaller but much friendlier circus hoping to build a career anew and find a way to grant his family a better living, which he eventually accomplished (the how is spoiler to the AP). Upon meeting his parents again, they entrusted him with a family relic, a wolf tooth necklace granting him the guidance of his lineage's first ancestor.

Our fierce strongman Hercules a.k.a. "The Incineroar" will have familiar something to pokemon and smash fans, and plays the fitting role of a Barbarian. Found and raised by two adoptive mothers, he didn't know who his real parents were, nor why he was the only catfolk whose fur glowed and sizzled under stress or why he would hear whispers in an unknown language. His investigations led him to find his father: a malevolent Ifrit who wished for an heir and took an unwilling catfolk to have his spawn; for such brutalities, Hercules felled him in single duel; since then, the whispers stopped.

Last but not least, the redeemed Magus Kai. Starting off the campaign, no one of us knew much about his past besides that it was troubled, and he joined the circus as backstage help to leave his history behind and start anew on a more simple life. We slowly found out that he used to be an assassin for D'vorak's cult; he didn't like that life, and after losing his loved one he definitively turned against it, burned down the cult's headquarters and tried to disappear. His past eventually caught up to him when he was found by D'vorak and his search group, which overpowered the party. Among the cultists was Kai's own brother, who had the mercy to end his life rather than let him be captured alive. Later down the line, when D'vorak wanted proof of Sera's potential, he had her perform a ritual to bring Kai back to life (keeping his promise that he'd let him back to the party), to which Pharasma acconsented only in exchange for his brother's willing sacrifice.

My friend's artstation :D We're so grateful we have such a dedicated and skillful table member to bring our ideas into colour ^^

The merits of special-biased Mixed Garchomp

I've been having pretty good success with this set:

Garchomp @ Roseli Berry

Ability: Rough Skin

Level: 50

EVs: 2 HP / 32 SpA / 32 Spe

Timid Nature

- Protect

- Draco Meteor

- Earth Power

- Stone Edge

It's not as strong as physical Garchomp for general use, I want to stress I don't think it's how most Garchomps should be played, but it fulfills valuable niches and throws a wrench in several calcs:

-It cleanly oneshots opposing bulkless Garchomp whereas Dragon Claw only rarely does and needs an Adamant nature for that small chance, and bulkier sets made to tank Claw+Rough Skin will usually go down to Meteor+Rough Skin instead (especially if part of that bulk comes from phys Def). Also, you don't care for Rough Skin yourself so you don't self-KO after trading

-Despite the -atk nature, it cleanly oneshots physbulk Charizard EVd to live an Adamant Rock Slide

-It really messes with Archaludon

-In general the lower Ground type damage is partially (but only slightly) offset by the current physbulk/Intimidate/WoW meta.

-Higher Dragon type burst can be handy in matchups such as Sinistcha to set up 1-turn KOs with your ally, at the cost of less sustained power

Garchomp's natural bulk and typing+Roseli still give it solid survivability, ofc pick whichever berry actually suits your team or whatever else item, I sometimes need to lead chomp into Whimsi or Sylveon. Max speed to guarantee Char outspeed and Chomp/Floette tie at worst.

Full calcs:

32+ Atk Garchomp Rock Slide vs. 32 HP / 11 Def Charizard-Mega-Y: 156-184 (84.3 - 99.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0- Atk Garchomp Stone Edge vs. 32 HP / 11 Def Charizard-Mega-Y: 188-224 (101.6 - 121%) -- guaranteed OHKO

____

32+ Atk Garchomp Rock Slide vs. 4 HP / 32 Def Charizard-Mega-Y: 132-156 (84 - 99.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0- Atk Garchomp Stone Edge vs. 4 HP / 32 Def Charizard-Mega-Y: 156-188 (99.3 - 119.7%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

___

32+ Atk Garchomp Dragon Claw vs. 2 HP / 0 Def Garchomp: 158-188 (85.4 - 101.6%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO

32 SpA Garchomp Draco Meteor vs. 2 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp: 186-218 (100.5 - 117.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

___

32+ Atk Garchomp Dragon Claw vs. 32 HP / 0 Def Garchomp: 158-188 (73.4 - 87.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (After Rough skin damage)

32 SpA Garchomp Draco Meteor vs. 32 HP / 2 SpD Garchomp: 182-216 (84.6 - 100.4%) -- 75% chance to OHKO (After Rough skin damage)

___

32+ Atk Garchomp Stomping Tantrum vs. 32 HP / 0 Def Archaludon: 116-138 (58.8 - 70%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (EQ does the same exact damage in doubles ftr granted it being spread has its set of implications)

32+ Atk Garchomp Stomping Tantrum vs. +1 32 HP / 0 Def Archaludon: 78-92 (39.5 - 46.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

32 SpA Garchomp Earth Power vs. 32 HP / 2 SpD Archaludon: 156-186 (79.1 - 94.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

___

The ground-type calcs vs. incineroar don't change all too much

-1 32+ Atk Garchomp Stomping Tantrum vs. 32 HP / 14 Def Incineroar: 92-110 (45.5 - 54.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery

32 SpA Garchomp Earth Power vs. 32 HP / 20+ SpD Incineroar: 96-114 (47.5 - 56.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
