The reviews we have gotten at my hotel are making me lose hope in humanity

I work in a hotel and I just need to share things people have actually complained about in their reviews:

  1. The weather during their stay (multiple complaints about this).

  2. The fact that it was still bright outside later in the evening.

  3. The city our hotel is in.

  4. The fact that they booked the wrong dates, arrived on a sold out night and therefore they couldn’t stay.

  5. The gas station beside us had bad coffee.

  6. He got into an argument with his wife and left early.

  7. They weren’t allowed to stay (both guests were 15 and were emailed before they arrived that all guests had to be 18+).

  8. Our 19 year old, 4’11”, same weight as a medium sized dog, never touched a wrench in her life, receptionist couldn’t tighten the bolts on their bed enough and the guests had to wait a whole half hour for our maintenance man to drive in.

  9. We assigned them a room on the ground floor (which was changed when they came to the desk asking to be moved higher. But because their room was initially on the ground floor, they had to mark us down in their review)

  10. We asked for their passport or license to confirm their ID (a complete infringement on their privacy, allegedly).

There are so many other small stupid things but these are the ones I could remember. I’ve worked a lot of jobs in hospitality but something about hotels just attracts the worst.

Bars for a good dance with a more adult crowd?

I love a good boogie on a night out with a big dance floor but a lot of the places where I used to go for that (Roisín Dubh, Electric etc.) are more for younger college students. I don’t want to hear any “just go anyway”, I WILL feel like the creepy older men who kept trying to dance with me at 19. Any good places with a crowd who are in their later 20s at least?

Sometimes I wish I could believe in an afterlife

As an atheist, something I’ve always been jealous of is people who truly believe in an afterlife that is better than the life we currently live. I’ve often said if I could force myself to believe in religion, maybe I would. The relief of believing in Heaven or reincarnation or ascending to another planet etc. etc. is probably unmatched.

Of course, I believe Death is just the end of the road. Your brain stops and your mind, memories, consciousness are just gone. Your mind doesn’t exist just the same way as it didn’t exist before birth. It’s all very basic and very natural. And utterly F’ing terrifying. I HATE THAT. I hate that that’s all Death is.

I’ve spent so many hours at night trying to convince myself that surely there’s SOMETHING after this. My personal favourite afterlife would be reincarnation. My same mind getting to keep experiencing life forever, without holding onto memories so that each life feels new.

Truth is, I love being alive, I love being able to think and feel and experience. I cannot fathom the idea that I don’t get to do that forever. I’ve heard all the “You just gotta experience life to its fullest and have no regrets” speeches but that’s not what I’m scared of. I just don’t want it to ever stop. I don’t want to not be here anymore.

Trust me, any religious person reading this, if I could make myself believe, I probably would!
