Acute Angle?

I am having a brain block here and I could use some help. I have a piece of trim under the stairs that I would like to add to - bringing it to horizontal level. The stairs are service stairs - 49 degrees. It seemed obvious that the matching piece would be 41 degrees - but that doesn't work. The angle seems good but the molding profile doesn't match up. It's too short. I'm thinking that maybe I need to cut an acute angle but not sure how to proceed. I think I may need to add a jig to the saw set to 90 degrees - then set the saw to 41 degrees and align it with the jig instead of the saw fence. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The black piece is a 1X that I can cut easily. The white piece of trim is the issue.

Looking to add a marble threshold

I'd like to add a marble threshold to the bathroom floor. This is what I have today. There's a metal J-channel about 3/4" wide, followed by a LVP transition molding. I thought the J-Channels were supposed to have the tiles slipped into them but this looks like they just filled it with grout. Obviously I don't want to crack the tile. I was thinking of cutting through that grout line with a reciprocating saw - cutting thru the metal J-channel. The LVP molding is junk and will likely pry right off. This would give me enough room to install a marble threshold. Any thoughts of advice before I proceed is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Concrete driveway cracks are getting worse

Hello:

Another cracked driveway question.

My driveway is cracking and it gets worse every year. I'm in NJ, so I'm covered for construction defects on new construction for up to 6 years. I started noticing hairline cracks about a year or two after the house was built. Concrete cracks, I get it. I planned on trying to address them on my own. However, they have gotten worse every year. Not only in width, but in the number of cracks.

The builder says I had a large truck park on the driveway, which caused the cracks. He also suggests that large trucks used the driveway as a turnaround, which caused the cracks. The interesting point here is that there are no cracks (yet) at the entrance to the driveway. All of the cracks began at the top of the driveway.

One thing I noticed is the control joint for the driveway does not line up with the control joint for the garage floor. I find it odd that the first crack followed the garage control joint and not the driveway control joint.

The specs for the driveway called for 4 inch thick. I did some research, and on sandy NJ soil, a 5 or 6 inch thickness is recommended.

I had a concrete guy that I trust take a look and he says that 99% of the time cracking like this is due to poor sub compaction. The only way to confirm that is to have an engineer take some core samples (estimated cost is $5K). Instead, I'm going to have him replace it (estimated cost $16K) and document what he finds when he pulls it up.

I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions on how to proceed, what to look for, etc.

Thanks.

Did a check using a framing square for flatness (?) and the control joints are 1/2" max.

Fixtures need cleaning

Hello:

I have a few dozen black metal landscape fixtures that are looking a little sad. They need to be cleaned. I've tried some 303 products to coat them to bring them back to life, but that didn't work. I'd prefer not to repaint them. I'm thinking mineral oil but that is a temporary fix. Any suggestions for cleaning and restoring the fixtures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
