Ontario landlord gave me an N5, but I also want to move out by the termination date
Hi everyone,
I’m in Ontario. My landlord gave me an N5 because they said I refused pest control treatment for cockroaches.
I do not agree with this. I have asthma, and my concern was about spray pesticide and its impact on my health. I asked about alternative methods, but no alternative was provided. I have also not seen cockroaches in my unit.
They have scheduled another treatment next week and said I need to correct the issue. The N5 termination date is June 11, 2026.
At this point, the situation has caused me a lot of stress, and I would rather move out by the termination date.
Do I still need to give 60 days’ notice, or can I move out by the N5 termination date? If I move out by June 11, can the landlord still file an L2 or ask me to pay pest control costs?
Thanks.
