Breakfast at Hotel Terme Merano - the highlight of the stay

Hotel Terme Merano in South Tyrol was one of those places where the breakfast was truly as captivating as the resort itself. The variety of options tailored for guests with particular eating preferences (gluten-free, lactose-free, etc) was unbelievable. What was even more unbelievable was that after staying there for 5 nights, we still didn't get to try everything!

The setting in the middle of the mountains, with a thermal pool by your side, is already beautiful, but the breakfast made the stay feel properly luxurious.

As much as the variety of dishes won me over, the serenity and the absence of feeling rushed were the decisive factors. It had that rare “I actually want to sit here for an hour and enjoy this” feeling, instead of just grabbing food before starting the day. For me, that kind of detail is what separates a good hotel from a genuinely memorable one.

What food/snacks do you always carry on longer rides, and what do you avoid?

I’m trying to understand what cyclists actually take with them for longer rides, especially mountain rides where it’s harder to stop, conditions change quickly, and you can’t always rely on cafés or shops.

What kind of food do you usually carry with you: bars, gels, bananas, sandwiches, nuts, candy, real food, electrolyte drinks, or something else? And how does it change depending on the season?

For example, do you avoid chocolate/soft bars in summer because they melt? Do you take more “real food” in colder weather? Do you eat differently on climbs compared to flatter long rides?

Not looking for brand promotions - more interested in practical habits from people who ride regularly.

"Mad Men" for anyone who wants a slow-burn character drama about ambition and identity

Suggesting Mad Men for viewers who like slow, dialogue-heavy character dramas.

It is about advertising on the surface, but the stronger appeal is ambition, status, office politics, relationships, and people constantly trying to sell better versions of themselves.

As a Marketing student, I found it especially interesting because the show is set in the 1960s advertising industry, showing the people, clients, pitches, and image-making behind brand communication during a major cultural shift.

No spoilers. Best if you like layered characters more than fast-moving plots.

Backpacking around Iceland with friends, chasing those Aurora lights

Last March, a group of friends from my exchange program in Italy and I spontaneously went backpacking around Iceland for three weeks. We were hoping to catch the aurora borealis, and luckily, we did.

We travelled in a chunky classic van and spent most of the trip moving from waterfall to waterfall, cooking simple meals on a small hot plate and trying to stay flexible with the weather.

The weather changed constantly: cold wind, cloudy skies, sudden clear moments, and even sunny days where we could walk around without heavy jackets. A lot of the trip involved waiting outside at night, hoping the sky would finally open up. When the aurora appeared, the tiredness and cold suddenly felt irrelevant.

I’d definitely go back, but next time I’d plan with even more flexibility around weather conditions and maybe spend longer in fewer places instead of trying to move too much.

For people who have backpacked around Iceland, did you prefer moving often or staying longer in one area?

Was Sorrentino's "Parthenope" about the life of a woman or was she used a symbol of a cinematic protrait of Naples?

Last week, I watched Sorrentino's newly released movie "Parthenope" (2024), and it left me with a true brain scratcher. The main question I ask myself is whether the director built the film around Parthenope as a female character or whether he used this exact female character to symbolize Naples?

There are a lot of connections to Greek mythology in the movie, framing her beauty, memory, and graceful development through the years as a woman, but also as the way her surroundings project their meaning onto her. There were so many dissonances and clashes in terms of her upbringing and her values, her beauty and her purpose, that it made me wonder whether we are still watching the film about a young, beautiful woman or what she symbolizes.

For those who have seen it, did Parthenope feel like a fully developed person, or did the film turn out to be a better depiction of the cinematic portrait of Naples? For those who haven't seen it yet - don't walk, RUN to see it! It's truly a philosophical work of art.

Can anyone relate? 4+ hours into a Dolomites hike, refuge food started tasting like a religious experience

📍Dolomites, Italy

I swear, mountain refuge food has some unfair advantage.

As the summer season is approaching, it always excites me to hit the road of another steep mountain 😄 Last summer I remember, after hiking for over 4 hours in the Dolomites, I stopped at a refuge, and the food tasted absolutely godsent. I don’t know if it was the altitude, the hunger, the views, or the fact that my legs were cooked, but it hit harder than most restaurant meals.

Does anyone else feel like the best hiking food is not necessarily fancy, just perfectly timed?

Which movie went from “overrated” to “masterpiece” (or the opposite) after a rewatch?

When you rewatched a movie, did your opinion ever change completely?

Maybe you thought it was overhyped the first time, but it really clicked on a second viewing. Or the opposite: you loved it at first but it felt flat later.

Which movie did you change your mind about the most after watching it again?

Did you go from loving it to disliking it, or the other way around – and what do you think caused that change (your age at the time, mood, life experience, or just noticing different things on rewatch)?
