Stranded in Canada with broken european transmission
Hello,
we are currently stranded in Nova Scotia, Canada with our broken campervan.
We already found a shop that found the issue. Seems like the transmission is damaged.
We have a problem however: our van got shipped over from Europe and is a Europe only model (Citroen Jumper 2.2 HDI year 2015, transmission type 20GP17). It is the same as a Fiat Ducato and basically the same like a Ram Promaster, however the ram uses a different motor and transmission.
We could send the parts over from europe, however due to limited availability it seems like we need to ship over a complete transmission. This of course either takes a while by sea or lots of money by express air mail.
Does anyone by pure chance know a place that might have spare parts for such a transmission or even a replacement transmission in or around Canada / USA?
Damaged parts are:
- left and right axle sealing
- Reverse idler gear
- Clutch and pressure plate and release bearing
Any advice is appreciated!
And yes - traveling with a french car, especially to another continent is quite risky - maybe we just love the extremes 😜
Edit:
Wow, I didn’t expect so many helpful comments! I tried to follow up on most of them and we eventually found a part shop in Germany (https://augustin-group.com) that seems to have all needed parts in stock and also seems to be quite familiar with shipping. After a bit of a night shift and another call with our dealership back home we ordered the parts there and should get them in the beginning of next week - fingers crossed that everything fits.
For all the comments recommending machine shops: if for some reason the parts we ordered don’t fit, that might be a good solution. For now we would prefer a replacement. After all we still have quite a bit of distance ahead of us before getting back home.
The info with the RAM with the 3.0 liter engine and 6 gear transmission was actually news to us. That might come in handy in the future!
Thanks for all the replies! I do hope we don’t need it anymore - but after all it is a french car, so we might be glad for all the advice when we break down the next time 🥴
We feel so very much supported through the whole thing, there is probably no better place to have car struggles than here ❤️
