So, I got in trouble. Why? I had a puppy come in and I bathed said puppy. Puppy was 5 months old. PP wanted a luxury with earthbath. Okay, did that. Used the blueberry facial like with all luxuries. Dog wasn’t showing any signs of not doing well.

Today I get called into the office. Puppy went to the vet due to eye irritation. On meds for a week. Manager is blaming me for using the blueberry facial. I used eye wash before and after.

I’m at fault because apparently we’re just supposed to use the Tearless Shampoo on puppies and no blueberry facial, which I was never told, and I didn’t use a puppy shampoo, which we do not order or have any of.

Is it just me or is that bs? Pup was fine throughout the groom and didn’t show any signs of eye issues.

so we had a weird thing today. I’m a bather under a groomer and we had an issue with a dog. we used eye wash as usual and I grabbed a bottle of tearless shampoo to use it up. used that the face and then bathrd the rest of the dog with no issue. just like every other dog. used eye wash after bath. noticed one little sud in her head so I rinsed that off after the eye wash and didn’t use it again. everything good. dog was put back in the kennel and I bathed a couple others before drying her. when the groomer pulled her out, she was squinting a little bit, her eye a little red. okay, maybe irritated. let pp know she was squinting a bit. well, pp took the dog to the ER and apparently she had chemical burns in her eyes?

we had some discolored tearless shampoo that I had used as well as the bottle that was mostly empty.

They called and said that it was FROM the grooming so it was free and the er visit paid for.

is this something on me? will it prevent me from going to academy?

im just concerned and worried about my job at the moment. and the dog, though everything seemed fine with her health in the end.

has something like this happened to anyone else?

hey, so I got hired on as a pet bather. I had worked as a bather in a private salon for well over a year. I started at Petsmart three months ago, with their promises of sending me to academy. We don’t have an academy trainer in our district and I’m about to hit 75 dogs in the next couple of weeks (by myself). I’ve already bathed and prepped well over 200 dogs while at Petsmart (I‘ve been bathing under a “power” groomer who takes 10-12 dogs a day). I’m open to take 6 dogs a day (gives me time to pace myself and get to know the dogs). we just got a transfer in who is also looking at doing academy soon. however, we just had an academy about a month after I started, but my store didn’t have anyone at our store go. We also only have one cat groomer currently (our power groomer can do cats but is super picky about it) and I know academy now teaches cat grooming as well, so I want to be able to do this. Does it seem reasonable that in the next few months I’ll be able to go and make it to groomer? the pay is awful and I’m 28, I don’t want to stay somewhere where I can’t move up anywhere.

So I was hired as a pet bather for a petsmart. I was told I’d be taking my own appointments and theyd try to send me to the next academy. but I need a certain amount of dogs/cats. Now, I have no clue what counts towards what I need for academy. I’ve done a lot of walk in nail trims, cat nail trims, and baths. unfortunately, my baths are mostly under one specific groomer who does 12 dogs a day. apparently those don’t count? so 4 days I’m working under the groomer bathing and drying dogs (with some prep, as I work 8 hours and she does 10) and then I have one 5 hour day for my own appointments (where I get 2-3). What I’m annoyed with is I don’t know what I need to go to academy, and the fact that my groomer’s dogs are normally insane and fight back constantly. I came from a private salon as a bather so I have experience with bathing. I also realized that in one day, the groomer makes as much as I do in one week, plus she doesn’t share tips at all.

Is any of this normal? Is it just my store? what exactly do I need to go to academy/what counts?
