AI makes anyone Look Like an Engineer. Now What?

With AI, how are Engineering Managers dealing with “vibe engineers” in Lead roles?
People who can use AI to build impressive POCs, but don’t understand the complexity of turning them into real production systems.
They agree to aggressive timelines because “AI can build it,” without understanding architecture, scalability, security, testing, reliability, or the engineering effort involved.
At what point does this become a leveling/performance issue rather than an AI adoption issue?
And how do you deal someone being compensated as a Lead when their actual engineering fundamentals may not justify that level? Also, all other team mates over-compensating with leads incompetence.

Vibe coders vs Real devs?

With AI evolving so quickly, how do we differentiate real developers from vibe coders?
It’s not much of an issue when they’re at your level or below. But dealing with senior-level vibe coders, tech leads, or client partners has become extremely difficult.
The core issue: an authoritative vibe coder agrees to aggressive deadlines because, in their mind, “we can just feed it to AI.” In reality, production-grade software still requires understanding frameworks, architecture, performance, caching, security/compliance, infrastructure, failure modes, etc.
The frustrating part is that explaining these fundamentals can take hours, while the delivery deadline remains unchanged.
How are you dealing with this without putting the project/delivery at risk? How do you flag the problem when the person above you simply doesn’t understand the technical constraints?
And honestly, how are these people qualifying for senior SWE/lead roles in the first place? Even if they get through the hiring process, shouldn’t companies have some mechanism to identify and address this when one person’s lack of fundamentals starts creating a major impact on the entire team/project?

Is D the only firm that guilt trips you over funding?

I feel like every project at Deloitte is always super poor where we are always desperate for funding. Also leadership low key guilt tripping you in believing that we are very expensive to the project and that they are doing us a huge favor.

Am I crazy for observing this? Anyone else experience this?

Missed timesheet limit

Hey guys,

I’m already under performance scrutiny and due to a confusion I had I’ve missed a couple of timesheets. I missed 6 total last year, but I already missed 6 this year. Just wanna know what’s kinda the upper limit? Anyone here in similar boat who has missed multiple timesheets?

iRPM Release Delays?

Hey guys, it’s extremely weird that you can’t see your snapshots for so long, this year, it’s been 5 months. My question is do they have this long, so they can go and cross question/edit snapshots? For example, someone on a performance plan getting great snapshots, don’t display rating, cross question and change?

Clomid declined T-levels?

Hey,

I’ve been on Clomid treatment for about a year now. At first, showed promise, with my T-levels increasing from 323 to 487, but now it’s down to 266 plus HCT over 50. I’m confused. It’s only giving harmful effects now. Anyone with similar experience? What’s the road forward?

I am very on and off on the medication tho. Supposed to be taking 25 mg twice a week, but I slip up quite a lot.

Question for Engineers?

Recently, as an SWE, I’ve noticed functional folks like PMs literally fighting with engineers and trying very hard to prove they are more useful. I would understand if let’s say a “Manager” was doing that with a “Consultant”, but I’ve seen it more other way around. Like as an SC, working with other functional folks who are as C, they really be super competitive and rude sometimes. Competing with your own team mates is not productive.
Others - have you had this experience? Any advise on how to resolve this?

▲ 4 r/tax

Hi, I have an issue. I just realized that I forgot to send in my vanguard tax statement. I actually had about $60 in capital losses and about $30 in dividends. My tax return was already processed and I got my return. But trying to understand if there’s a legal liability or what’s the law around this? I plan to file an amendment regardless. I’m in the US.
