Finally some decent gas mileage

For those not following along in the saga, some context:

Grandfather parked this thing 20 years ago because it was too expensive to drive back in 2006 when gas broke $3 a gallon and the old El Camino was only managing 6-8 mpg.

As of today after rebuilding the carb and distributor, replacing the plugs and wires, retuning everything from scratch, and doing an oil change for good measure, the old Mino is officially getting 12.8 mpg!!!

I'm super impressed with this tired old car. 12.8 is WAY better than expected considering its got the big ol' 350 that my grandfather built.

I know it's getting greedy, but I'd love to see it break 15 if I could, but I not sure that's really possible without replacing the TH350 and swapping out the rear end.

The fuel economy is now good enough that I can drive it without immediately going bankrupt!

Finally got the old Mino running right.

After months of fighting a random misfire and inconsistent timing issues I finally bit the bullet and bought the Pertronix Flamethrower III HEI rebuild kit and rebuilt the old worn out distributor. Replaced all the plugs/wires and followed the tutorials from various old forum posts to get things set up right. (the legendary Lars deserves all the kudos)

Needless to say it finally gets up and out of its own way, no longer backfires, and doesn't smoke out of the exhaust!

Seriously excited to be able to get out and drive this thing. :D

Appointment scheduled for next week. Any thoughts on what it might be?

This bump showed up about 8 months ago. I thought it was a wart, tried some CompoundW with no success, here it is still causing trouble and being ugly.

I normally wouldn't be too concerned, but it hurts when I bump it against things, and I made the mistake of googling similar skin tags/bumps and now I worried about skin cancer....

Location: Base of left pinky.

Chasing a miss fire, hoping for help diagnosing from plugs.

Looking for help chasing a miss fire. Pulled these plugs this morning after letting the engine cool over night, things to note about the plugs:

#5 was wet with fuel l, but not blackened with soot

#7 & #8 are both blackened with soot, so I can only assume they aren't firing properly.

I have come to find out that all the plugs are using an "anti fouling spacer", not sure that is helping or hurting anything. The plug wires are old, so they could probably use a replacement.

Where would you start with diagnosing? These are new (less than 100 miles) plugs on an engine that sat for years (20+). There isn't any obvious oil being burnt coming out of the exhaust. I find it off that the front plugs seem to be fine, it's just the rear plugs that are having issues.

Resealing bed over smugglers box?

Anyone have suggestions regarding the best sealant for their truck bed?

Mine is leaking into the passenger compartment causing trouble and I'd like to get it sealed up this summer. I've read online that there is a pretty good 3M sealant that can be painted/bedlinered over, but was curious if any of you all had suggestions on what works well.

I'd really like to not have to reseal it in another 3 years if possible :)
