The Pirates were hitting despite losing key players in their lineup. The players who replaced those injured were more than holding their own. We were near the top of the league, pretty much the whole season in runs scored and home runs. Valdez helped us win a few games. He was not expected to be in the majors this season.
Who is to say they would have scored even more runs if key players in their lineup did not hurt. I know it’s never good to lose players and I wish we hadn’t had injuries. Injuries should not be a reason for the Bucs failing when we look back on this season. Starting pitching? Yes. Bullpen? Absolutely! Poor fielding? Yes. Poor decisions? Yes.
