My house is solid masonry: Limestone foundation, solid brick walls. The internet has scared me away from filling my joist cavities with spray foam, but the fact is that our main floor gets really drafty in the winter.
I was thinking of using canned spray foam to do a small amount of air sealing in the basement. Between the joists is a horizontal piece of wood running along the house, sitting on top of the foundation like what you see here.
Should I put a bead of foam along the top, where it meets the subfloor? Or the bottom, where it meets the foundation? I’m assuming the former.
Also, will this actually improve anything?
