My Journey - Tracking & Commentary

Hi,

Hope this isn't the wrong place for this kind of content, but I thought it might be useful to keep track of my own journey on this such that others can have a data point to compare to. I'll be open and honest about everything good and bad.

Pre-Mounjaro

Body type: Obese

Age: 42

Height: 183

Wight: 120kg (Mostly in belly fat)

BMI at start: 36.2

Comorbidities: Depression, Bad back (lumbar spine, 1x disc degradation leading to bone on bone contact), Asthma, Sleep Apnea (since age 27, ironically before I was even overweight), fatty liver disease

For context, in 2020 before my back was injured i was ~83kg.

Tracking: Effects and weight using Glapp. Food intake with myfitnesspal.

Mounjaro Commenced August 2026

2.5 mg dose.

Week 1:

Hunger & Food Noise: Hunger disappeared. Food noise reduced dramatically. Although I still need the odd snack, I am no longer using snacks to avoid work or other responsibilities. It seems there has been a mentality shift (could well be a placebo).

Food Intake: With my hunger basically gone and food noise reduced heaps I was eating much less. And I was making better choices because I am tracking with myfitnesspal. (e.g. feel like takeout? macdonalds is like a days intake in a single sitting. switch to a burrito bowl for half the calories.)

Weight loss/gain: 1.87kg loss

Mood: Mood has improved. Probably because I see a way out of the situation I was in before.

Side effects: In the first week these were quite bad. These would all come and go: Dizziness, Bloated, Belching, Headaches, Abdominal pain, Nausea, Vertigo. Reflux was off the charts for about 4 days. Diarrhea was quite bad for 24 hours about half way through the week, I was shitting water. I must say that one of the effects of eating much less is that energy levels are not as high. I probably wouldn't be able to lift much at the gym.

why cotton liners?

Hi,

I see lots of folks on youtube using cotton liners under latex/nitrile gloves when moving/wrapping/pulling meat.

My question is, why cotton?

Isn't wool a better insulator?

ChefsTemp vs Inkbird ISC-028-BW temperature controllers

Hi,

Big Joe owner here.

I'd like to have a temp monitor/controller for overnight cooks, and to not have to think about it while I go out to the shops/prepare for guests etc.

Can't decide between the two. Any red flags on either of these units?

My pros and cons are below

Pros Cons
Chefstemp ($~255 for the lid thermometer and the blower) Wireless - no dangling wires. Cooler tech factor. Another app to monitor. Have to replace the thermometer in the kamado lid. The pain of having to charge the lid thermometer to cook. Costs about twice as much as the inkbird when you have to buy the blower + lid thermometer.
Inkbird (~$120) Already in the ecosystem. About half the cost of chefstemp in australia. Wired probes and danging wires. Probably (?) won't benefit from the wireless probes I already own.

New woollies entrance being trialled

Looks like it belongs on a sheep farm if you ask me.

Not so kid friendly either.
