MX-5 ND - Potenza Sport EVO became much louder after 2 track days - could it be feathering?
Picture for attention
I recently fitted a new set of Bridgestone Potenza Sport EVO (205/45 R17) on my MX-5 ND. They were quiet when new, but after two track days they've developed a noticeable humming/droning noise that's most prominent around 100 km/h (60 mph).
The car drives perfectly, there's no vibration through the steering wheel, and the tires still look fine visually. I've been reading about tread feathering on performance road tires after track use and I'm wondering if that's what I'm experiencing rather than a wheel bearing.
Has anyone had this happen with Potenza Sports or similar tires? If it is feathering, would rotating the tires front-to-rear help reduce the noise, or is it something that won't improve until the tires are replaced?
