I got tired of losing track of 1000+files… so I built a desktop app to organise them
Hey makers,
Anyone else's model folder basically a graveyard at this point? Within a year of getting my printer I had 1000+ files scattered across drives, tons of duplicates, no real previews, and zero clue what half of them even looked like.
So I built Modelist (Mac/Windows/Linux):
- auto-indexes your folders, picks up new files automatically
- real thumbnails: STL previews, 3MF embedded images
- search by name, description, or notes
- spots duplicates and groups multi-part prints
- opens straight into your slicer
All local, no internet needed, nothing leaves your machine unless you want it to. There's also opt-in cloud sharing now for sending files/photos to friends.
Currently working on German, Spanish, and French translations, plus parametric model support.
Free to try on your own library at modelist.app. Everything's at https://modelist.app/ if you want to poke around.
Curious how the rest of you handle this — do you have a system, or is it also just chaos? And if you tried Modelist, what would actually be useful to add?
