Give me patience 🙏
I can’t wait to see how huge this leaf is gonna be once it’s hardened off
Should I assist or will it find its way
Hello, do you help the new leaves find their way to the light if things look complicated or will they always right themselves
Evidence of fast growth
Interesting to see how quick the trunk can thicken. I think when I get a proper moss pole(the one I got looked different in the ad listing 😂😭) she’s gonna take off
Endemic to Hawaii, the Portulaca Molokiniensis ‘Ihi. Gonna try to propagate and see how it goes 🤞
Love this little thing! I am learning that it holds a ton of water in the leaves and trunk, seems like it needs to stay bone dry for a while in between waterings.
Went to check out a local conservatory, they have some bonsai!
Taken on my visit to the Krohn Conservatory today in Cincinnati. I went to get some inspiration for my pre-bonsai projects and figured I’d share. Couple more photos will be in the comments section since I could only post 20 pictures.
I was very impressed, for a not so huge city in the Midwest, these were some beautiful trees :)
Edit: One thing that took me off guard now that I’m looking at photos and reflecting on the trees, is that I reeeally love those Natal plums. That species wasn’t even on my radar prior to this visit now I want one lol.
Tip fenestrations?
Hello, I got this monstera a little over a year ago at Walmart it’s starting to get pretty big, this new leaf a couple of the “fingers” are split at the end it looks cool
My first cleanup haircut attempt on this Wigert’s Tiger Bark Ficus pre bonsai made me realize I have no idea what I’m doing
As soon as I picked up the shears and looked at the tree I panicked and remembered that I really don’t know anything. I was so anxious I didn’t end up taking much off at all. Kind of thankful for that cause I could’ve messed it up lol.
I just wanted to expose the trunk a little bit more for now since that’s my favorite part of a tree. I also just clipped off a couple foliage shoots that extended out past the rest of the pads. And I clipped some leaves and little shoots to separate the main top pad from that lower side pad.
But anyway all this made me realize I need to do a lot of reading and studying about styling and just general rules of design for trees and where to go with it from here since it’s a “pre- bonsai”. Does anyone have any resources they recommend for my situation?
Picked out my first ficus I’m so excited for it to get here!!
I paid 100 for this beautiful tiger bark ficus. I have got to stop buying trees but I love all them so much 🤣🥳 my favorite part is the trunk I see so much potential. I wonder what it will look like in 5 years or 30 years. The only thing I don’t like is the bright red plastic pot it’s gonna drive me nuts until I can repot it but I’m guessing that will be a while. I wonder if I could paint the pot with the tree in it lol.
Couldn’t believe this huge Pachira “Money Tree” was only 36 bucks
I couldn’t believe this money tree was only 36 bucks. I ain’t askin any questions I walked right to the checkout with it lol. It’s 4-5 feet tall. I looked thru all of them at the store to find one with the thick flared stalk cause I like the way that looks on trees “nebari” as they call it in bonsai. Makes the tree look older than it is.
Also taking bets on how long it takes Mango to devise and execute a plan to knock this bad boy down 🤣
I don’t know what mango was doin but had to snap a pic
The light shining thru his trousers
Wanted to highlight Ang at Wigert’s Bonsai.
I just received my first bonsai tree and I couldn’t be happier with how the whole thing went. It’s a Dwarf Black Olive.
I offered to pay extra for the opportunity to select my own specific “pre-bonsai material” from a group picture, Ang over at Wigert’s emailed back saying no need to pay extra, and sent me several photos to choose from!
Well turns out they had one that looked perfect for the style I’m wanting to shape it into!!
They even watched over this tree for me until I was back from vacation and ready to pay.
I got back from vacation on a Thursday and paid the invoice that morning, Ang replied promptly, shipped my precious tree out that afternoon, and Saturday at around noon it arrived!!
It’s everything I was hoping for and it’s the exact tree I picked out, packed with care and no damage at all to the foliage. It looks so great :)
I don’t often see this level of care these days, especially for a small $50 purchase (25 for the tree 25 for shipping) so I’m just blown away.
Definitely will be ordering more trees and all my supplies there, they’ve earned a loyal customer for life. I do realize this may sound like an advertisement to some people who are jaded like me. It is not, I’m just a weed grower in Cincinnati lol check my profile if needed.
Thank you Ang and thank you Wigert’s. Awesome.
1 year progress.
I messed up and got the wrong moss pole, so once I can afford it I will be getting one of those D-shape poles that can actually hold some moisture and support a root system
