Is it possible to replace an old updraft carb on a Briggs engine with a modern carb? Engine is in a Simplicity 7013.

The motor will run on ether but I can't get it to even pop a little otherwise. I've run it through the sonic cleaner but I'm hesitant to pull it apart due to wrecking gaskets and not being able to find replacements.

I can't get this engine to pump fuel.

I've swapped the pump twice. When I pull the pump off and put my finger over the valve cover nipple I feel a vacuum. I can push fuel through blowing air into the tank and I get bubbles when I blow the other way. Changing the filter and eliminating the filter haven't helped. Compression is 110psi.
