Eliminating Strat quackiness
Duck hunting (eliminating the quack)
Tl;dr I’m trying to de-quack my American Pro II Strat. I currently use the neck, bridge, and neck+ bridge which all sound GREAT. But I can’t stand the 2 and 4 positions, too quacky and sounds like cheesy 80s soft rock to me. Middle pickup is OK but too trebly and not enough bass. I play clean or low gain, mostly indie rock and classic rock. I’m mainly a Tele/LP player, this is my first Strat in a long time.
I’ve tried the following to remedy the issue:
-adjust volume/tone on guitar
-turn down amp treble and increase bass (amp is dialed for the Tele neck pickup)
-drop treble side of all pickups and raise bass side
add gain (amp gain or Morning Glory)
-lower middle pickup to pickguard
-play Mark Speer and Frusciante riffs instead of Lukather and Clapton
-soft rock exposure therapy
None of it has really worked. I’m thinking maybe a new middle pickup might help, something with more bass response and less quacky treble, maybe a Strat sized humbucker like cool rails?
