What happens if I buy 1 share of EVERY stock in India and hold for 3 years? The result surprised me.

What if I buy exactly 1 share of every stock in the Indian market and hold them for 3 years? Would I actually make money or lose money?

I asked it to run the experiment using NSE stocks that were available on 31 July 2023, then compare them with their prices on 31 July 2026.

The first-pass result was surprisingly positive:

📊 1,864 stocks bought

💰 Total invested: ₹15,17,488

💰 Portfolio value after 3 years: ₹17,13,904

🤑 Profit: ₹1,96,417

📈 Return: +12.94%

And this was from literally buying 1 share of almost everything - including some absolute disasters. 😂

Among the stocks that were still present/matched in 2026:

819 were winners

641 were losers

Some individual stocks were up 500–700%+, while others were down more than 95%.

But there's an important caveat: this is a raw-price calculation, not a fully corporate-action-adjusted backtest. Splits, bonuses, mergers, delistings and dividends can change the true result. So I wouldn't treat the +12.94% as the final definitive return yet.

Also, this isn't an equal-weight portfolio. Since we're buying 1 share, a ₹20,000 stock gets vastly more capital allocated to it than a ₹20 stock.

Still, I thought the result was pretty fascinating.

Would you actually expect this strategy to make money?

And more importantly:

Would it beat a simple Nifty 50 / Nifty 500 investment over the same period?

I put the numbers and some of the biggest winners/losers in the infographic below. 👇

Buy more or Catching falling knife?

This stock is like all time low. Is it a good time buy lot of it? Will it go up in the future.

Portfolio Review, Need help!

Risk appetite: Aggressive Investment horizon: 5 years Monthly SIP: 5-6K

I have been doing SIP for 1.5 years now. Now I think FD in post office would have been better choice.

What I'm doing wrong?
