Weird sponge after restringing

Weird sponge after restringing

I went to restring my racket and the guy added these two tiny little sponge pieces at the stem. The string is tightly holding onto it but I'm not sure if it will come off after a while. I am guessing this helps with tension but I'm not sure why and what it's for. What should I do with it?

First Car Advice

Looking for some advice on my first new car. I’m 30, 12k monthly savings. Single (planning for family in 5-8 years), and I drive short daily distances (5-20km). Not a big car guy but would appreciate comfort, maintenance cost and having a car that I'm proud of.

Currently driving a 20 year old family car that's giving a lot of problems.

Caveat: I'm planning to go abroad for a 1-year sponsored master’s program soon, that comes into play in deciding between a new or used car.

Current dilemma:

  • Toyota Vios HEV (New @ ~95k): Love the hybrid tech and reliability. Planning to keep it for 20 years if it lasts. The interior feels dated and the blind spots are annoying, but I think I can live with it.
  • Proton X50 Premium (New @ ~95k): Love the interior and features (like the remote start feature - essential for our heat). Concerned about long-term maintenance/QC and fuel efficiency in city traffic.
  • Used Vios (50k-70k, Cash): Considering this to avoid a loan. Since I’m heading abroad for a year, I want something I can sell off easily without worrying about depreciation or "emotional attachment."
  • Used Miata (RM 125k): My dream car. Probably the only way I’ll stay happy paying a loan every month, but I know it's not practical for a future family. Will get a 2nd car 5 years down the road if I end up with this option.
