Haunt Closing Show

I know there isn’t any fireworks or drones but is there some kind of closing show at end of night? If so, what time does it start? I don’t see anything on their calendar. I’ll have a two hour drive home tonight and trying to decide if I should stay till close.

Haunt in the rain

I already bought tickets and fast lane passes for next weekend so I’m going regardless. But the forecast looks like some rain. Hopefully on and off. What should I expect? I’ve been to Kings island dozens of times in my life but never in the rain. My main purpose is for coasters at night and just the general Halloween feel. Wasn’t really planning on the houses unless I change my mind last minute.

Kirk & Rob Doodles

Not sure how I feel about these. I understand the reason to give James and Lars a quick break. They seem a little hit and miss. With the new shows announced, I’ve been thinking about what they might do. What are you thinking for your city?
Indianapolis here:
Mellencamp - I think this would go over great and get everyone singing
Back Home Again in Indiana - a little weird but a metal version could be cool. It’s a huge sing along at the Indy 500 which will have just happened a week before the concert
A deeper cut - Sloppy Seconds. Would be fun and right up their alley but not sure how recognizable for the whole crowd and a little hard to find a more popular song without some sort of offensive lyrics.

Trail Closure

Update: in case anyone is curious, I spoke with the backcountry office and they told me not to change my plans but to monitor closures. It has been closed for a while and would likely re-open before my hike. He was vague about answering if I could do it and didn’t explicitly tell me not to cut across the closed portion to get to cold spring trail but he said he didn’t want to lead me into danger either. He did confirm that a bear had been reported as stalking hikers. I have a completely different route to do as a backup if needed.

I see a portion of Hazel Creek Trail is closed for bear activity. I have a backpacking trip planned in a month and I’m counting on this trail. I have my camping permits and I’m not at a closed site. Is this an “enter at your own risk” closure or do I need to find another way. The route around just won’t work - too much mileage in a day. I’m no stranger to the smokies, just don’t want to get a surprise re-route mid hike. I’ve hiked through logging and blowdown closures in other parks but never a near closure.

Haunted House Lines

Going to haunt for only my second time. Went last year but spent most of the evening in line for conjuring. It was cool but not doing that again. My main goal is coasters and I plan to get a fast lane pass. What are average waits for the houses? Do the lines move quick. I want to do the new Jason haunt and maybe one other depending on time. I expect that line to be longer. I’ll be there on a Sunday if that matters.

When Was Peak Live Metallica? Is it now?

1995-2000: raw energy mixed with increasing professionalism and showmanship? Before Newstead left. 80s would have been wild and probably unpredictable to see. I think now is much more polished and precise. Late 90s a good mix? I don’t have much live experience to go off but I saw them in 96 and I don’t think I appreciated what I saw at the time. Thoughts?

2 Song Combos

For me I like:
Battery-Master of Puppets
Sandman-Sad but True

Any others that you really like? They don’t have to be in track order or even from the same album. Did you hear it live? I heard the sandman to sad combo by a Metallica tribute band and it sounded good back to back without a pause

Shoes vs Sandals

Hiking the ocean to lake trail in a few months. This will be our second time. My wife’s feet got destroyed first time around - I don’t even know how she finished. We’ve been discussing swapping between hiking sandals(with toe box) for water and shoes for the rest. Has anyone done this? It’s an extra item we wouldn’t normally hike with. Any other suggestions? It wasn’t even a super wet year (Feb 2024) We may have just started blister care too late last time. We enjoyed the trail so much that we want to go again though.

Woodstock ‘99

This has probably been asked but does anyone know why an official album recording of their entire Woodstock 99 set isn’t available? Could there be future plans?

Do they still have it live?

Update - I appreciate the responses! I like the set lists I have seen from the recent shows and I’ve watched some videos. It seems like some of the raw grittiness is missing from way back but I agree they look much more solid as a band, the shows look great and the crowds are really into it. Just needed a little encouragement from those that have seen them lately. I want to see them again while I can and this seems like a great option. Thanks again!

To get to the point - wife and I are ready to buy tickets to both nights at Mohegan Sun. We’ve went through all the pros and cons but my one thing I can’t shake is that I haven’t seen them live since 96, I watch tons of old live concerts and I have become a huge fan of a Metallica tribute band that focuses on the “Black and back” era. Am I being dumb to think I will be a little let down? I’m really hyped to be part of the crowd but can’t shake this. Someone tell me to just go
